68 ranger interior style

Post by freek454 »

I am restoring my 68 ranger to stock and need to know interior style? did the bench seat come with a cloth or vinyl insert? should the insert be a different shade from the seat color?. The stock dash, door panel and steering wheel are in the truck should the carpet and seat match or did the seat come a shade different. Should everything match other than the seat insert that would be a different shade? thx.

Take a look at the factory '69 brochure, paying special attention to the pictures and descriptions on Page 4 and 5:

It's been my experience that if the truck was black, blue, green or red, the dashpad and steering column were that color. All other truck colors had a black dashpad and column. However, my truck was originally white, and it did have a white 3-spd column...the only white columns I've ever seen have been on '67s and '68s.

I have a 68 Ranger C/S. I recovered the orginal seat approx 2yrs ago It was parchment .The inserts are vinyl although they look like cloth. If you look at the 68 litature;magazine advertisments the top center pic is the collor of my int. I think the bottom pic 2nd page shows the color of your seat. Either way in both pics right behind the girls shoulder there is a 3" by5/8" chrome doodad . I have both still with some insert material left on them if you would like them to make your seat as original as possible. P.M. me I'll send them out.

My 1968 Custom Cab is Holly Green. according to the build sheet and the way it was when I bought it. It had a custom beige interior. All that was beige though was just the column, the headliner, and the visors. the dashpad is black and so is the armrests. the seat is green. I take that back. Whats left of the seat is green vinyl. the rest is just foam. Now it has a 0.75" wooden headliner, and a black column out of a 74. The previous owner had the ragjoint welded up solid because the cab mounts were bad and they kept tearing out. After about 6 months of me driving I was turning a corner in town and the column and gearbox splines stripped out. So I put power steering in it then. Thus the black column. When I get it redone the interior will be black. The metal and exterior will be Holley Green.
I've always been crazy but it keeps me from going insane.
