Seat Swapping (Ford-Chevy)

Post by towens »

A friend of mine is wanting to put my '72 F250 bench seat into his '79 Chevrolet pickup since his is completely shot and he can't afford much of anything right now. (Being a student and all.) Has anyone done this?

This should probably go on a Chevy forum somewhere. Not too many people here own chevy's to even try a ford seat swap into one of em.

Who knows.. you may get lucky and some misguided individual will know, have done it, or have a friend of a friend who has done it.

Well first of all let me get one thing straight. This is not for me it is for one of my friends and he does not have an access to a computer. And I am fairly sure that out of 1695 registered users that someone out there has either owned a Chevy or has heard of one of these swaps being possible. So please don't tell me your :bs: advice on finding a chevy forum because I TRUST the people on this site. If you are going to give advice, at least make it useful advice.

So I guess any advice that doesn't spoon feed you the answer answer that you want on a silver platter is considered :bs: and useless? I was trying to help you out, I mean I'm not the one posting a CHEVY swap question on a FORD forum. :hmm:

If you wanna get rude and nasty I can get rude and nasty too.

Im no mod, but Im gonna say my piece anyway.

NO ONE needs to get rude OR nasty here. Especialy here!
This forum deserves more respect than that. Take it to private E-mail if you must. But NOT here.

That being said.
I think that maybe some replies were just simply taken wrong and not meant to offend in the first place.

A question is a question. Chebby related or not. It wasnt totaly off topic. And its up to the Mods to determin what is acceptable in thier forum.

Cmon, this place is too valuable to allow people to muck it up with bad blood.

OK guys, mellow out. There's no reason for anyone to get rude and nasty here. Patrick, that was a legitimate question....one thing we don't do here is refuse to answer any question from something seeking knowledge, even if it involves swapping in parts from other marquee. Heck, I just posted a question tonight myself regarding swapping a Che*y power steering pump onto my FE.

Back to the question: I honestly don't know if the seat would swap in or not, but I'd be willing to bet it would without too much trouble. Depending on the floorpan configuration of his Ch*vy, he might have to swap his seat brackets onto the Ford seat, and maybe drill new holes, but otherwise it shouldn't prove to be that big of a problem.

I'll defer to you Keith.. and if you notice in my post I did say someone might know.. I'm not the one who got rude and started in with the unnice terms about the type of advice I was giving.

But really.. to know this you would have to know the dimensions of the Chevy cab, the position and layout of the mounting holes.. they type of track it uses, the location of the mounting points in the track, etc... I'm sure we can provide all the information wanted about the seat, but as far as if it will fit into a Chevy.. *shrug* I know I can't run out and measure one cause I don't have one sitting in my yard. Anyone have one?

Like keith said, with a little enginuiety it can be done as long as the seat does not incomber the door or steering wheel. I have seen household furniture turned into bench and bucket seats.

Also i know the 80's style chevy seast will fit in a 67-72 it is a little tight though so. It's worth a try.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

When I was in high school I put 240Z seats in my Datson pick-up. I turned the tracks around so they were facing backwards, then I used some carage bolts with a stack of washers as "legs". I drilled new holes to mount them and it worked fine. I couldn't move the seat forward or back but the truck was so small inside there was no need to. :D As far as a Ch#$y, well, now that I think of it, I never owned the same brand twice!
In order: 1979 Datson Pick-up
1978 Chevy C-15 crew cab
1965 Nash (I had a Rambler for 3 days! Only car I ever owned)
1988 Isuzu Pick-up
1994 Dodge Dakota
2001 Jeep Cherokee
1971 Ford F100
The Chevy had a built 350. Holley intake and carb, mild cam,Turbo350 shifter. I could smoke the snow tires like nothing. The looks I'd get when guys in their sports cars and muscle cars couldn't beat me was priceless. :D

If a Chevy seat is tight in a Ford, then the Ford seat should have enough room in the Chevy. He will probably have to figure out how to mount his original seat tracks to the Ford seat, though.
