re: A/C options
It sounds to me like an original factory AC unit would come closest to filling your bill. They will eat up some glove box space, though.

Your right mine has another 3" deep glove box with drink holders at the bottom. I really like my factory air Especially on a day like today (107 degrees with 80% humidity) in Quitman, AR

I'd like mine, but UPS smashed a corner of it when their idiots were playing catch with the box, and they're STILL giving me a runaround on paying for the damage they've done! Best part (NOT) is that you never get to talk to a human when you're trying to get in contact with them about a claim.... UPS SUCKS!!!!!!

Hardtail, that sucks. What type is your a/c?
I just got some rocker trim shipped via UPS. The box was mangled but luckily the place I bought from packed it really well so nothing got kinked.

re: A/C options
My old air products Hurricane setup is one of the all in one units and is about half the size of the old heater unit alone. It is nice because you can route all the ducts where you want them. I have been experimenting with the different vents as you have prob seen in the other thread to get a little better air flow. I'm sure this unit is great for a reg cab but with a crewcab and all that extra hot air it struggles a little on the cooling side. As far as heat or defroster she will toast you and cook any ice off the window. When in defrost it has only 2 vents opened to the defroster and their also pretty short so the air flow is pretty strong.
The glove box issue is still there and the 3in deep one is all that fits with the vent hoses attatched to the unit. I have also wired the fan motor to the original bezel switch but the thermostat control I had to add the turn little knob.
Any questions or measuments you might need to make up your mind on a unit let me know.

re: A/C options
460 crew, I have been reading your posts. I have a F600 dash and was thinking about puting a vent in it and one on the right side of the glove box, like you have. Not sure what to do for a middle vent. Maybe an under dash rectangular vent. I want to save space for a tach in the F600 panel.
I have wondered about using the factory controls. I also thought about maybe getting a factory a/c control panel and modifying that to work. But like you said, there needs to be a thermostat knob somewhere.
How hard was it to make the old control panel work with the new A/C?
I think the easiest thing would be to get an old add-on under dash box unit. Kind of a nice retro look. Not sure how well it will work with a floor shifted auto though.

I was also thinking of cutting a plate for where the existing radio delete plate is and adding 2 of those billet vents right there seeing that I have an under the dash radio box for the tunes along with where I added the thermo knob. That would give me a total of 5 vents or 4 if i opted to not add another to the other side of the instrument cluster instead 3 by leaving the delete plate alone. I'll prob just use the 3 for now and see how it goes, I can always add later. The underdash rectangle vents suck, maybe the rounds would work better down there but the rectangles don't aim high enough and the shape kills the airflow.
To get the wiring to work with the old switch you just pull out the old and pop in the new wires in the old harness, I also added a relay so when the truck is running the relay is triggered to give the fan motor full 12v from the relay when switch on, kind of like the 77F250 I have in the garage I had to mess with recently and got the idea from.
Vintage air has some nice under dash hanging setups large and small and their very helpful. Might give them a call and they can give you some dimensions if their site isn't adequate.
My GF in HS had a jeep wrangler that she added the aftermarket hanging unit in and that thing would freeze your you know whats off. I've never had any problems with aftermarket units. Even in the heavy equipment the add-on units usually out preform the OE in the CAT stuff by far.

Just ordered mine from these guys:
http://www.rainbowproductsonline.com/in ... ome%20Page
and they're in NC. Were I thereI'd g talk with them. Good 'ol boys, they've been in the business for overr 15 years. Some of their stuff is Vintage Air knockoffs, but I was confident enough in dealing with them that I threw down almost $800. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
But I'd give them a call....

re: A/C options
FN, which one did you buy? How about posting a link to the one?
One of the a/c sites last year had a line stating that most of the combined heat & a/c units were junk, that they had only one element, a cooling element. And that they got their heat supply from the heat coming off the a/c element. (Is element that right word?) Anyhow, it basically said these heat/defrost/ac units were junk, except for theirs. Not sure if it was a sales ploy, or if it had truth to it.
I have to be careful on this. Like most of us, I can't afford to make a several hundred dollar or more mistake. If I have any doubts, I'll probably just get the box shaped under dash unit.
