heater conrol panel removal

Post by dotcentral »

How are these things mounted? It has been awhile since I messed with one. Is it a couple little small nuts or screws inside the dash? Sort of like the radio, but nuts or bolts are from the backside? I want to hit a yard today where I think they might have one, but don't want to take a full toolbox.

Thanks.

There are two small studs coming out of the back of the control panel that fit through holes in the dash, and are held on with nuts on the back.

Thanks Keith. I figured it out. Sure is awkward to remove.

You should try removing it without being able to take out the radio... I tried to get one outta the junk hard one time and no lie, the previous owner WELDED the radio cage to the mounting tabs for the radio.

heater conrol panel

Post by dotcentral »

I bought 2 sets of heater controls and noticed that one has all black paint, except for the perimeter which is chrome. the other has is almost the same, only the vertical face is black, the rest is what looks like argent silver. Still has the chrome perimeter. Same part#s, C8---. One came from a 68, the other from a 69. I've also seen a panel that was all bright metal, or at least looked that way. Might have been argent.

Anyone else ever notice that? Don't know if it is a year thing, or a supplier thing. Both were 6 cylinder base models. Didn't look for plant of manf., because I didn't notice it until I was home cleaning them up.

one more thing

One truck had a chrome or polished metal e-brake handle. I've only seen one other. On a base model truck, 68 or 69 forget which.
