Making some custom kick panels.

Post by Big D's 69 »

I am in process of making some custom fiberglass kick panels for my 69 Ford. I have already removed the vents on both side and the e-brake. I'm not gonna reinstall it as to there want be enough room for it and I don't need it. Gonna install Vintage air so the vents are no big deal. Already have me a template for each side. Gonna start the fiberglass prep and making the template to mount my speakers in each one. Gonna be a lot of hard work and time, but should look badass when I get done. Has anyone attempted this or completed this job. Was looking for some feedback or pics if anyone else has done this. I have tons of experience with fiberglass work so not worried about that.

I just hope they turn out as good as I think they are going too. Lots of cold beverages and time to make them look right. But hey I got plenty of time and it is free labor.

I've never checked out those Vintage Air systems. Since you state you'll no longer need those vents, would it be safe to assume they don't draw in fresh air from the outside, but just cool the existing air in the cab? What about the heater? Is the Vintage Air unit you're using have a heater as well, so you'll be removing the heater box?

The fresh air vents will be welded up and the new vintage air unit has both heat and a/c. I will be remving the heater box as well and having one unit do both jobs. WIll be nice on those hot Georgia nights and days.

Hey big D I think those vents get air from the cowl so just make sure that there are some holes behind were the speaker magnets are going to sit so that any water that falls in there will drain out and not create a small aquarium behind your speaker, actually I think there are some hole already there just make sure that there ain't any leaves blocking them. What size speakers are you going to use cause I am also going to make some fiberglass enclosers for some 6x9's.

Yeah I'm going to check all of that out while it is tore apart to make sure I haven't everlooked anything. I am thinking of going with a 6 1/2 inch speaker. I think that would be better than an oblong speaker for a kick panel. Man I can't wait to see you truck finished. Got an idea of what it is gonna look like when it is finished?

Just wondering if a set of kick panels from the 73-79 trucks would work in our trucks?
