Tapping for 3 point belts

Post by 72f100 »

I have my new 3 point seat belt setup, but I need to tap the hole on the
"B" pillar for the third point. I've never tapped a hole or anything like that. How do I do this?

Thanks,
Matt

There isn't a threaded insert for one :hmm: I thought all trucks had the insert, it just has a cover over it. My 67 built in 66 with no options even has it. Did some not even come with the insert?

Almost all have the weld nut inserts but some aren't threaded. Mine are not.

Interesting! I've never see a truck which didn't have the threaded insert. :hmm:

Yeah, I had the welded nut, but it wasn't threaded. I bought the tap at PepBoys and now I've got three-point seat belts! They're the $35 non-retractable belts from JCWhitney. They work and are not terribly uncomfortable so I suppose it was a success.

Some of the bolts are the self threaders and will cut the threads for you

I actually tried to screw the bolts that came with the belts in without tapping them and that was NOT going to work. Anyway, they went in fine, they look good, and I really like them!

I know the inserts on mine are threaded. Because there's a broken bolt in one of them! :x
