removable trans hump

Post by kknip »

Hi,I have a 68 shortbed that came with a six banger and a small auto,my truck has the larger ,removable hump for more clearance. The trans would fit fine with an uncut floor and I was wondering what this raised panel is for?I plan to cut a flat panel out and screw it down so my carpet will fit. :?

Your truck has the tranny hump for a C6 auto or a four speed manual.
Are you sure that the small auto tranny is original to the truck? It may have come with a four speed when new.

Yes,I double checked the door plate(I made sure the vin was the same on the framerail)and the code for the trans is G which showes it to be an auto.It is a c4.

And you're sure the engine is original?
The tranny code 'G' could be for a C4, C6, Cruise O-Matic, FMX.
I'm thinking that truck had a C6 ib it when new.
Could be wrong, though.

Well,No I'm not 100% sure if the trans is original.I have long since removed the 6 cyl and inst a 302.You are probably right.I guess there is no way of telling for sure.Anyhow,I plan to inst the flat panel and leave the factory cover out.I wonder if something like that is sought after?

I've got a 69 lwb with (I think) the orginal 302 and (I think) FMX. It also has the removable hump pan. Would such a body also have provisions for clutch pedals and auto pedals? That'd be music to my ears for possible 4spd replacement.

If you are talking about the pedal assembly, you should be able to remove the clip for the brake pedal, slide the pin out and slide in a clutch arm which has the pin made on it through the brake.Of course you would have to get the "Z" bar and pivots that go on the frame rail and engine block from another truck for the clutch. If you find a donor truck that has all of this.you should not have a problem.Make sure you find a Z bar that came off a 302 if you intend to keep the same engine.
