dash pad removal?

I am going to take my dash pad off this weekend i just want to make sure there aren't any trick bolts holding it on. I know there are three behind the instrument panel but i can't seem to find any others.

There should be some all the way across inside the dash.If I remember right you will have to take the glovebox out and the instrument panel and maybe the radio.I may be wrong.But i think im close.Tony

Jor has some good pics of this. My gallery has an after pic showing the slotted holes in the front. Most of the nuts on mine were only finger tight. I did use an extra set of hands to take mine out so that it wouldn't scratch the finish however, there were a couple under there from the factory. Good luck, it was a fun project.

If you;re going to get rid of the dash pad, make sure you remove the metal vents from it first. Then you can mount those into your metal dash.

Yea, too bad we still can't post photos. Anyhow, there are a dozen or so bolts that hold it on. I use a nut driver and a 1/4" drive to take off the nuts. I agree that the instrument panel and glove compartment need to come out. Don't forget the ones on the corners; they're easy to miss. When you get all the nuts off, I would suggest you pull it straight up on the windshield side to kind of pop it up off of the dash. When it feels pretty free, pull it back toward you. That will pull the front bolts out without scratching up what is hopefully nice shiney paint underneath. Email me if you want some photos. I'm at oiga at comcast dot net.

yup the little buggers in the corners tick you off you look and the nuts all appear to off but still not budging if you need a prybar to remove it keep looking for the nuts . the number of nuts is in the teens

Counted on mine, there's 14 nuts. This sucks without pics But I'm sure glad to have the site up!

Here are some pics. You have to cut the grilles out and they will bolt right into the dash. I circled the holes that they will screw into. I used 8-32 flatheads. If you don't have a tap just get self tappers. Hope this helps.

thanks guys, my daily driver just broke down so i haven't had the time to work on it. ol blue has now turned into my dd. i went from 26 mpg to 8mpg

I'm in the same boat. My wifes car sprung a leak in the radiator last night. She has my Cherokee and I am driving the good old bumpside. At least I'm getting 11mpg, though.

It's a some what time consuming task, I just did it last weekend. Wrapped my dash pad, door panels, and headliner in dark gray tweed. Man it looks awesome. will post pics soon as the photo gallery is back up.

well i got it out, i just ripped out what i could and went back and undid the bolts after. There are 16 of them. the dash was white.
