paint was good except up by the window where a collection of galvonized finishing nails had collected and ruined it a little.

re: dash pad removal?

I'm debating taking the dash pad out of my 72 F-100, but I don't want to get it all torn out and find that the dash wasn't painted underneath!

Is there a pretty good chance that there is nice, shiny paint underneath the dash pad, or was it hit or miss?

My truck was built in Kansas City, FWIW...

Thanks

Nick :hmm:

I think most of them are painted and look very good underneath. My 68 is an exception. I think it spent so much time baking in the sun that it got kind of welded to the dash surface and consequently was a big mess. My 67, on the other hand, looked brand new underneath. Live dangerously - pull it!

Just pull it! My skinny girl arms don't have much muscle, so my dash pad wasn't busted up after I took it out. I figure if I want it back, I can put it back on. For those of you that cut the vent covers out... Does that completely destroy the dashpad?

Yeah, kind of. It ruins the padding on the back, but does nothing to the vinyl on the top. So I guess if you put the pad back on, you could leave the grilles screwed to the dash and just put the pad back on over them. :dk:

aceton works good to remove the padding that is glued to the grilles

Yeah, when I say ruin, I guess it is because you have to cut the grilles out. They are imbeded right into the foam.
