Headlight upgrades

Post by Galaxie64 »

I've ran across lights such as these on ebay.

Anyone know anything about them or have any suggestions on an "upgraded" light for my '72.

A friend of mine bought those for his :off: truck (cough-coughchevycough-cough) and they lasted about 3 weeks. One small rock (about the size of a pea) to the headlight shattered it on the drivers side, and it was wedged into the frame holding the bulb refractor.

Looks like a great idea, especially with a better, brighter bulb like those, but not worth the cost if the glass is that fragile. :2cents:

The stock headlight wires are too small 18 guage and takes a very long path from the battery to hdltswitch,to the dimmer switch back to the headlights. Voltage is lost because the path is so long. You get maybe 10 -11 Volts. Intstall relays and you'll get back in the 13 or better range and you will notice a huge difference. Also this will cure the flashing headlight problem you see on some older Fords.

This week I'll get my detailed headlight relay how too pics uploaded and written. Really helps with even stock bulbs.

I bought a set for my truck and I have both good and bad to say, Let me start w/ the good. They look awesome, they give the front a really different look. And they have an aux blue lamp in them, (controlled by a toggle switch) When your in a parking lot or somewhere similar you can flip them on and oh man do they look cool.

The bad side, I had to make a couple very small mods to make them fit, and I doubt the quality is quite as good as something you would buy at the parts store. Overall, I'm very happy w/ them.

:2cents: it's a nice headlight but that blue crap has to go, the only way my headlight will look blue is if they are 10000 k when they are on and when they are off they should look plain (no color).

My father in-law has them on his '56 F100. He used the little blue light as a turn signal for the front.

i just installed these today actually. so far so good. instead of wiring in the blue bulb, i plan to wire the "ring" wires to a switch in the cab. that way i can choose to light the ring around the headlight or leave it off and only have the main headlight on.

if i catch a rock in it and break it, i'm going to be pissed off

My only problem on my first truck was that the driverside appeared to have been milled off a little.

Mine cracked from heat I got it and thought i'd go the 90 watt bulb. Wrong too warm for the bulb.

But even with that crack these where ultra brite with the stock wiring even when i went back to the 60/55 bulb.
