Removing Shift Collar

Post by AustinTom »

Is there a good way to remove the shift collar without cutting the turn signal wires?

you have to get the wires out of the turn signal plug with a small pick. i've never done it myslef but others have and there are some discussions about not to long ago. you may be able to find them in a search

i changed the steering column on my 68 about a year ago. and installed a new shift colar too. I remember asking myself the same question. i was going to cut the wires by the turn signal cam. im glad i didnt though. what i ended up doing was cutting the wires at the base of the column and pulling the wires out installed new column and sliding the wires back inside the column...surprisingly the wires went backthough the column very easy. and reconnected everything down low. it was pretty easy....I geuss this really doesnt answer your question but its an option. :drive:
