Round gauge question

Post by bluef250 »

Do you have to change out the appropriate sending units (oil, gas, temp) when you install round gauges from a medium duty truck? Is the speedo correct or do you need to change out the transmission gear? If so, where is the best place to get the parts?

If you are replacing your stock panel with an F-600 unit, I know the fuel, oil and speedometer are the same. I suspect the temp is too.

WE had to use a sending unit for the speedometer , on the back of the speedo it has switch's to adjust at 60 mph and then your set ! After market gauges

Ladz, this is the first I've heard of any necessary modification to the speedo. What is this "sending unit" you're referring to? On my F-600 set, I just threaded my cable onto the speedo unit just like in the F-100 unit. Thanks.

My F600 dash hooked right up to all gauge wiring and the speedo hooked up to the cable without any problems. I used the old wiring harness off the F100 dash

Are you saying that you were able to just plug and play with these? If so, that is great!

I believe that the post regrding the sending unit may be in reference to using a non-factory gauge.

GtScott, Yes, I just plugged them in and every thing worked except the turn signals. They didnt work because the F600 has turn signals wired some other way. I put the wiring harness off the original 67 F100 dash on my F600 dash and everything worked like it was supposed to.

That is great! I figured I would have to split the harnass and make my own to get the F600 dash to work. Thanks for the info.

Those tachs are mechanical drive, meaning they're driven off the distributor. You'd have to find an expensive aftermarket mechanical-drive distributor to use it. The FT mechanical-drive distributors won't fit into an FE engine without some machine work, but considering the expense involved with trying to hook up that 4000-rpm tach you'd be much better off just replacing it with a similar-looking aftermarket electric tach.

Dang, and I thought I had found quite a "find". Even if I did use the 4k tach, i sure as hell well never peg the needle :)

I made that at work, it is specific to that AutoMeter gauge. If time wasn't such an issue I'd offer to make one. My boss is going away next week so maybe...??? I didn't forget about the clamps for you either, mrnicks. Here is the print I drew up for the bezel.
