just picked up a '67 f100 2wd camper special needing brakes. the original owner (previous to whom i bought it from) had converted it to a dual piston caliper disc set-up which i presume is f250 stuff. the wheels/hubs are 8 lug. the casting numbers on the i-beams indicate that they're from a '72. i havn't yet scraped away the grease to i.d. the spindles.
from what i understand (someone please correct me if im wrong) the dual piston calipers weren't made until '73.
my main question is which calipers and rotors will fit?(from what years?) and can i identify the calipers i have by the numbers?
also curious why the dual piston caliper is "not as desirable" as stated in the disc conversion article. should i and could i easily go to the single piston set-up?
thanks for any help!

re: disc brake identification...
First of all, welcome to the forums and website! Glad to have you aboard.
Dual-piston calipers were standard with disc brakes on the '68-'72 F250 trucks, so it's possible the previous owner used a set of those. (You might compare the pieces on your truck with pics I've posted at http://www.fordification.com/Ibeams&spindles.htm to see if you've got a '68-'72 F250 disc-brake setup or if it's a '73-up conversion.) They'll get the job done and are definitely better than drum brakes, but are just not quite as good as even the single-piston versions of the '73-up trucks. If you've got access to a '73-up F100 or F150 with the disc setup I'd definitely go that route...especially since it'll return the front wheels to a 5-lug setup. The entire front end is a direct bolt-on to your truck.
Without knowing which generation of setup you have, I can't tell you what service parts will work. If the parts are original Ford there should be some casting numbers on them to give you an idea as to their date of birth.
So did the previous owner also swap in an 8-lug rearend, or do you have to carry two spares?

thanks for your response keith.
yeah, he swapped the rear too... seems to be a dana 60. and uprated the suspension as well. i guess he dragged a big camper round.
so, i believe you, but it seems counter-intuitive that the singe out performs the double. is this true even for the '73-up dual pistons?
and is there a single piston set-up that will bolt on to my f250 spindles?
thanks again,
eli

I guess I should have also told you that the opinions expressed about the dual-piston operation was second hand from several sources. I have no first-hand knowledge of their efficiency, so I'll actually have to defer that to someone else here who know's a bit more about it.
