Anyone have a big stereo in their truck?
I'm just wondering where a person could mount a subwoofer, with the tank still behind the seat, and not much room anywhere else.
And do you put bigger speakers in the kick panel or cut some holes in the door? I'm thinking 6x9's.
Thanks!!

Hi-jack away!! The more ideas the better!!!
I thought about under the seat, but to put any woofer box there (even custom-made) I think you'd hafta pick the seat up
I think it was LMC that had the headliners with speakers in 'em, but I bet they would distort/crackle....in other words not very high quality speakers.
Maybe vertical bass cannons behind the door/seat in the open corners? I dunno........

anyone know anything about these?
I have sold a few in home entertainment centers, they work well without
making everything rattle, they are built into the chairs.

I think I'm going to mount my speakers in the kick panels using some of the molded speaker pods from rod doors, And I've already got two 10's behind the seat, no gas tank there anymore

you can glass some kickpanels, or door pods and go over with vinyl or whatever material your seats are wrapped in, to kinda keep a clean flow of texture/colors.
I personally was going to weld up the bed, and cut the back wall and do 4 15's but I think I am going a different route.
For you, I suggest putting some 4 inch speakers, and some tweeters in the kick panels and some 8 inch mids in the door panels. Run an active setup off a 4 channel amp and have the best sounding F100 out. Can be done for ~500 bucks.

re: Anyone have a big stereo in their truck?
I wish I had pics of my '72. The cab on this truck has the most natural boom tube ever. In '92 i bought my 1st bumpside.Having made a windfall on my totaled 80 f-100. I picked up the '72.
The 1st thing I did was went to Best Buy and purchased stereo equip. I found a Craig power play am/fm cassette, and to boot they were promoting some new sony motorcycle/marine application fully encased(weather proof)speakers. I was entertaining the thought of mounting in the doors . As it turns out these speaker were either 4"x10 or 4"x12. They fit perfect in the area above the rear window to either side of interior light . being mounted here the quality sound is project in to the cab, with the cavity space in the rear pillars the bass comes down a natural "boom" tube and is not obstructed by the seat or anything else.
At the time it was just a fluke that I got the amazing sound out of the components that I purchased .I know everyone hates to cut the interior sheet metal (I failed to mention that I surface mounted these speakers just like rear deck speakers). I'm still not real savvy or fortunate enough to be able to afford bose or anything like that . some one knowledgable in sound could probably research this and come up with a speaker (4"x6"-4"x?)configuration ie wolfer and midranges that would fit there (after installation mine looked and sounded good). I am rambling but When i get to that point with the Stepper I'll be able to compete with some of the little boomer cars for a lot less coins

You know I never thought of that i thought they would be too small. I did have the idea of mounting two of them per door just below the armrest.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

When I put bucket seats in my 68 F-100 4x4 I had a custom oak center console built that had a box in the front for a 10" sub and I also put 6"x9" 's in the doors.

I helped a buddy with his stereo install in his '57 ford pu. I know it is not the same but it might give you some ideas. We installed 2 6x9's in the seat where your calves would be. It took some engineering but we cut the seat and built boxes for the speakers. You couldn't really notice they where there while sitting. The stereo was in the glove box (not my choice) and we put 6" subs tubes in the space between the seat and the side of the cab. The result a clean look, good sound and no chopped up doors and dash. ![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

re: Anyone have a big stereo in their truck?
not bashin anyones preference in speakers but 6x9's are the old speakers now. Research proves that round speakers produce the best sound waves, therefore sounding better. Soundwaves are round waves, why do you want an oval speaker trying to produce a circular wave?
You can get PLENTY PLENTY PLENTY! quality sound without THINKING bose or sony or something of that sort. Parts express has dayton, and a few other companys that are good for the money. I personally like the "internet" based brands as they actually sell things for the price worth paying. JL Audio, Kicker, Cerwin Vega, Alpine, all this is NICE equipment, but WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY over priced.
Companies such as soundsplinter, fi car audio, shocker, incriminator audio, are owned by single people, or brothers in shockers situation. ALL of these companies you can and always will talk to those that OWN the company, not some foreigner answering phones to make wages more affordable and profits higher.
