after market steering wheel?

Post by 72ranger »

Has anyone had any problems installing a aftermarket steering wheels with a 3 on the tree 3spd. Im hoping to find a smaller and flatter woodgrained type steering wheel, but worried about it interfering with shifting gears.

i have all stock wheels in my trucks. but what i would do to check the stoke distance of the shifter is get in and pull it to you while having a tape measure to measure the stroke from nuetral to the closest point toward you. that will give you an idea on how flat you can go with a new wheel. if you get what i mean.

You know, I put a small diameter Grant steering wheel in my pickup and drove it around for 2-3 months. Yanked it right back out for a stock unit. I don't like the feel of those little wheels in old trucks, even though mine has power steering.

I had a Grant Signature series wood wheel on my 67 with the 3 speed on the column with no issues at all. Plenty of room and it is a lot flatter wheel than the original. I had no power steering either and it was no trouble at all. :)

Find out what the "dish" of the wheel is that you are thinking of installing,
then eyeball your steering column from the side where it will meet the column and you will be able to tell where the rim of the new wheel will be.

Just like this one. No problem. Just make sure you get the right adapter kit for your year truck. They are different.

Trukcrazy, good looking interior. Whats the radio faceplate you used on your '67?

That's a super rare 1967 am/fm tape deck with the original 67 faceplate for that option.

Actually, that's a 67 am radio faceplate that a previous owner modified for the tape deck.
