Anybody here do upholstery work?..A good friend and myself want to take some sort of upholstery class...We have access to a good commercial sewing machine and we both have several projects waiting in the wings...
I've always loved a nice looking interior---uncracked dash, clean door panels, plush seats, etc. ...No matter how nice our trucks look, the view we see it from the most is the inside...I don't know that I'd want to develop a new trade or business at this stage of life, but I would like to take up upholstery as a hobby...We haven't found any local classes available, yet, but are considering buying a 'how to' video...Anybody have any thoughts or ideas?

My neighbor growing up started her own upholstery shop in her little shed. She just loved to sew (did her 2 kids dresses for school every year). she bought a machine and I donated a car for her to practice on. Turned out great!
I think the hardest part is where to cut the fabric, so it isn't too tight when you put it all together.

In life many men take the path of righteousness, some take the path many others follow (G.M. owners, for example), some take a more arduous path, some a simpler path. I, sir, took the PSYCO-PATH!!

I grew up in upholstery, my cousins have shops now and will be doing mine. Its not that hard, its the sewing machine, you have that so now its practice. easiest to do is to remove old cover in one piece and rip the seams and lay each piece donw on the new material and trace around with chalk make sure the piece is flat. when you get your shapes cut out sew them together thats the hard part. you sew it inside out.... you know its hard to explain, go to a shop and watch. explain what your doing and they should not mind, buy them lunch. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_laughing01.gif)

Thanks for all the input...I got a set of torn up burgandy bronco seats that I'm dying to get my hands on and redo...I've checked online with no luck so far,but I think my buddy found a class that's about 20 miles away....but it doesn't start for a while...
