In NY there are no titles before 1980, and no records of mileage. On the registration application you can check the box about mileage exceding mechanical limits. I would agree that the only issue with a vehicle as old as ours would be if somebody fraudulently sold his 200,783 mile truck and told the new owner that the truck had only 783 original miles. If you tell a new owner that the actual mileage is unknown or diiferent than that indicated by the odometer you should be OK. IMO

Flatbed sounds like new york likes to see vehicles older than 1980 getting stolen with no chance of original owner proving it to be his.

Sounds like anybody can walk in and with insurance proof and an address can register any vehicle older than 80.

For an older vehicle in NYS the registration reciept is proof of ownership and is used to sign the vehicle over to a new owner. You don't even need a bill of sale, only the signed document. Ye s any body with a signed registration. I felt way too easy when I registered my truck.

I tried to flip my F750 odometer back to what the original speedo had, but they wouldn't go. I flipped back the milage on a girlfriends
RX7 years ago (19 or 20 years actually. I was young a stupid  ), and they just flipped at the flip of a screwdriver. Not the case with the F750 odometer. I just wrote down the two milages and will have to do the math to know exactly what's on it. Oh-well.

Well, I did it. I took pics of the previous reading for the record.
For the record, before I figured out how to the remove the little spring clip that holds the number barrel in-I broke it. Just happened to have a similar clip from a carb rebuild kit that worked out.

Do NOT use a dremel for this! Little plastic shavings started flying out!

Not sure exactly how I got it back to zeros but ended up chucking down the battery screw gun onto the odo tail pc and putting it in reverse. In about 5 minutes it was done.

Maybe if I sit under the christmas tree with the zero'd cluster in my hands at midnight with tinsel in my hair, and a mouth full of candy canes the rest of the ranger will go back to zero miles too!

So if I run my screw gun in reverse, I can get my milage to read what I want (or need I should say)? I'll give it a try. Thanks for the info. It is really bothering me that it is reading 50,000 miles to much.
