dash speaker....

Post by waynaferd »

Well I finally got around to removing the brackets that held the dash pad on, and after I tore out the glove box to wedge my arm up above the radio, the factory speaker just kinda "fell" out.

So how is this supposed to be held in? I wanna get a new 6x9 to stick in there, but don't know how to mount it.

Thanks!!

And a little 94 F-150 Flareside, 7" higher and 35's...

A 6x9 is too large to fit up in there properly, but it can be made to work. If I was determined to do such a thing, I'd probably remove the dashpad and then drill four holes to attach the speaker, and then reinstall the dashpad.

However, LMC sells a dual-cone speaker to replace the stock piece that'll bolt right up, and will give your stereo a bit more of a semi-stereo sound, since you'll have both channels in the same speaker housing.

the orignal is held in place with a slotted mount near the firewall and under the radio bezel with the radio bezel screw

I put in a dash speaker. Not a 6 x 9, probably 5 x 7? Anyway, with the dashpad off I was just able to zip-tie the four corner holes of the speaker into the holes in the dash.
This lets you forget about the original mounting bracket setup which requires a specific speaker (expensive), and the Schucks speaker sounds just fine.
