New shift collar

Post by ratfink »

I have a new shift collar for my 68 ranger, auto. I already painted it and was just curious if I will need any specialty tools to swap it out.
Thanks, ratfink

a steering wheel puller. screwdriver and maybe some pliers. and a socket for the steering wheel nut. and a small pick for getting the turn signal wires out of the plug at the bottom of the column.

I just replaced mine, The hardest parts for me were, Getting the pin out of the gear shift selector. Then on the end of the shift tube there is a spring. i used duct tape to hold the new collar down so I could use both hands to put the the housing that holds the turn sig. switch. I also broke the neutral safety switch lever on the shift tube. The new shift collar was tighter, I tried to remove it to apply some grease and.......snap.

Sounds like it needs a pre lube before install.
