Steering wheels-what years fit?

Post by duckbill59 »

I am in need of a replacement steering wheel for my 72 F250 and have been looking at the later model 70's and/or early 80's Ford trucks and Bronco's as a source. My main concern is whether or not the splines are the same as mine and what years I should look for. I am interested in retaining a Ford steering wheel but without worrying about being original to the year of my truck. Thanks for the help.....

With my experience getting a new steering wheel for my 67, I found out that all 67-79 wheels fit and function correctly.

As for early 80's, I have a wheel from around an 84 on the truck now. It fits the splines fine, but the signal canceller doesn't work on it. The bottom diameter is off just a little too. The wheel is around 1/8 to 1/4 inch larger diameter where it meets the steering column. As far as horn and other stuff, they all work fine.

Like I said, the fit is the most important to me. I should be able to make the signal canceller work I guess. Thanks much for your help....I sure like this fordification forum!!!!!!!
