Steering Wheel '70 F250 under $200????

Post by m_and_T »

So, yea, is my best bet to go to a junkyard and pick n pull this item?? I found one on ebay that would fit, but its not in good condition at all.

All the reproduction ones, or originals from "obsolete parts" websites are $150-$300 and I am just NOT willing (or able) to shell out that kind of money for a steering wheel. One place is selling the Ford logo horn cover for like $50.

Anyway right now the truck has basically a video game size steering wheel which makes it extremely challenging to drive considering the lack of power steering. My husband doesn't seem to mind but it makes me nervous on our narrow street.

Any ideas how to find a nice affordable steering wheel for this truck??

xx

go to a junkyard and get a 68 3 spoke steering wheel.

I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than go driving with Kennedy

You could try here, some of these aren't too bad price wise, and they come in up to 15" diameter. http://www.mooneyesusa.com/catalog/inde ... =188_23_74

Or, A steering wheel from the scrap yard shouldn't cost much, and eastwood sells kits to make them like new. Just a couple Ideas

Cruise the backroads and look for one in someone's field. I've scored on a lot of pretty sweet parts (like my current steering wheel, a three-spoke with horn bar in great shape) by just talking to the homeowner for a bit, sometimes even for free.

Hey thanks for the tips and links guys! I love the idea of crusing around and looking for truck parts that way-- here in California there are a LOT of random trucks and cars in fields and I never thought to try to chat someone up for some parts!

I really appreciate the great advice and I will check out the pick n pull lot as well as the local fields and that internet link and let you know what I come up with!

:D :D Thanks!!!

The wheel on my 71 is a 67. My horn doesn't work however. Are mods necessary?
