Installing a cargo lamp

Post by mjhaltom »

Has anyone out there installed a factory cargo lamp in a truck that never had one? I mean cut the hole in the cab and everything. Any comments or tips would be appreciated as I attempt this. Thanks

is this something that a dremel and a cut off tool could do?

Where would I splice it into the wiring harness? I have the original harness that goes to the lamp, but I need to know where it plugs into the existing harness. Keep in mind my truck did not have this option.

I beleive it runs off the same line/fuse as the cigar lighter and interior light. there should be behind the guage panel atleast one wire that has three openings in it bullet style. Two might already have a wire running from it but it is perm. power.

i have a cargo light that is original. i went out and looked under the dash for you. most trucks i have parted out only had two wires going up through the pillar to the fuel and interior light. well my truck has three so the third wire has to be for the cargo light. i didn't try to look any further because i would have had to take my stuff apart in order to look more.

basically you need a wire going to the switch that has power. from the switch up to the light. maybe you could pull power from the three socket plug on the left side of the dash behind the cluster robert was talking about.

How far down from the top, or some particular seam or bodyline does it need to be to locate it correctly?
