Hey all
Well I've procrastnated till it bit me in the a$$. Now I'm putting things back together out of nessicty I gotta have transportation. I have everything off and thur firewall with the exception of the steering column, fuse block and parking brake assembly . The fire wall insulator all but dissentgrated piece by piece by piece. Now with the inner firewall bare I refuse to just shove everything back thur and just drive it . I've found a material that will work well a an insulator. I'm contemplating using the bare firewall as a mold covering it with fiberglass, after it sets up pulling it out and need be another layer of fiberglass, the afore mentioned insulator between the fiberglass and either naugahide or a burlap material on the cab side .My concern is what to put up on the firewall to keep the fiberglass from adhereing to the metal, will newspaper or wax paper work or should I mockit with poster board or maybe a little thicker card board ans masking tape . My first idea was good ole paper mache~ but i got laughed at (thanks billybobjunkie). I think the most time consuming will be initially covering the firewall and curing time . I know when the fiber mat goes it should be no wider than 2" strips and just play with lenght . Ive priced matting and resin 30 bucks tops . Is it worth the headache ? Question comment, Input!!
thanks
Tony B

If it were me, I would just get one of the aftermarket covers available from LMC trucks Or National Parts Depot.

It sounds like a lot of work for what you want to do, and then you'll have to make sure you get all the holes drilled in the right places.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with it.

I have to agree...that sure seems like a lot of time and effort (as well as materials) to make something that's already being produced. Just my opinion, but when everything's said and done, you're probably going to end up with something that you've put a lot of time and effort into but you're not going to happy with in appearance.
The reproductions are really nice. I got one off eBay several months ago for $130, which is about $50 less than what the catalogs offer it for. If you're interested, I can dig up the seller's username for you.

I spent several hours carefully removing a decent one from a parts truck, another couple hours trying to make it look the best it could and another couple hours installing it in a nice truck. After all that work It didn't look up to par with the rest of the truck. I haven't bought a new one, but next time I definitely will.
