Jumping starter
Who knows how to do this? I was told you touch both sides of the solenoid with a wire. Need specific instructions please.

It is way safer to touch the two smaller posts on the solenoid. Touching the battery cable posts on the solenoid will teach you a serious lesson if you are not real cautious.

My response get deeted? I've always touch a screwdriver between the bigger post and the other post. I thought that the I post is cold until it gets power from the inside of the selinoid from the big post that all the wires bolt onto.
I did say don't touch anything metal with your skin while doing this.

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

Here's a photo of the hookup for a remote starter. Same for what you're doing. Like rjewkes said, just use a screwdriver.

Oh great, first we give away all our theft-proofing secrets, and now we tell the bad guys exactly how to hot-wire the starter!
BTW, you guys forgot to mention you got to add a wire from the plus side of the battery to the plus side of the coil, to supply ignition power!

re: Jumping starter
I actually took out my radiator support and inner fenders to powder coat and am trying to start the engine but keep hearing the voltage regulator crying or something. I figured it and the solenoid were grounded to the sheet metal and it's been sitting there since july without running.

re: Jumping starter
Isn't there a remote starter you can buy that will crank the truck while you are under the hood?

re: Jumping starter
Yes, there are remote starters you can buy. To get it to run, you either have to have the key on, or run a jumper wire as Hiboy said. Hiboy, I once did that with a '68 a friend was looking at to buy from another friend...the seller forgot to leave a key, and the maybe buyer was all sad about not getting to drive it. I whipped out a jumper wire and a screwdriver, and voila`!! Off we went. Of course he wasn't too impressed when he realized how easy that made it for thieves.

i have the ignition switch bypass that was made to keep them from having to replace the switch and tumbler.
Musta cost about 30.00 bucks though to bypass the replacement of a 10 dollar set of peices. Of course having the doors rekeyed will cost. Unless i have them rekey the switch to match the doors.
I'm just glad they didn't butcher the harness like i previously thought they had.
