Interior Materials

Post by SMF Speed&Custom »

I bought some new bucket seats yesterday from a friend (who is a member here btw) that are powered, heated and from a 02 or 03 Jeep Liberty. I looked up the material color and code up at a upholstery shop and the trimmer there said that I can use Vinyle (the seats are leather) and have the same texture and color as the seats and that it will cost about 40 bucks per sq ft.... He said I would need 5 sq ft of it to do the headliner and door panels and possibly a center console that I plan to make. What do you guys think about this price for vinyle? Does 40 bucks sound a little too much? It is a light tan called taupe (SP).
I was going to just get a carpet kit online but they didn't have anything close to the color of the seats so I was going to get black but he said he can get a color to match and get a carpet kit. Do you guys think black carpet with the tan seats, headliner, console and door panels would look good? I don't know if that will look right because most pictures that I see with nice interior has everything matching but that got me thinking to do the door panels in the tan and do a small design in black on top and same with the headliner... Idea's, info or anything else would be greatly appreciated and sorry for such a long post with all the questions.

Thanks!

Black carpet would stay looking cleaner. If you could two-tone the door panels you could make it match. Black matches anything, it's just a matter of bring it all together.

Excellent answer! I agree...for a driver, I'd go with black just to keep it looking cleaner. You can find ways of tieing the two colors together to make it work...maybe get some black inserts or highlights sewn into the upholstery?

Color-matched carpeting would definitely look better though....at least for a while.

honestly i'd leave the taup leather seats the way they are. Get some black carpet and then go from there.

The price on the vinyl is about what we sell it for here at work. Black carpet if it is a daily driver. If she is gonna sit and be drove on occasionally then go for whatever color you want.

Thanks for the price info Big D's 69. I am thinking if I should go through a main company myself or just go through the shop because as you know all he is going to do is buy it from a big supplier or company and mark it up and resell to me... I just don't know of any companies that sell interior materials like foam, jute and vinyl.

We get ours from a company called PUI. Not sure if they sell to individuals, but it is worth a try.

Go to a good fabric store they should have every thing you need ! Rugs from different suppliers will be different in shades of the same color that will make a defence so get the carpet first !

That's where I got the tweed for my dash, door panels, and headliner. I was very happy with it
