LED bulbs?

do our trucks need an equalizer in orde for the leds to light up or blink or both?

Does anybody know? has anybody done this upgrade?

Good question. Probably depends on how many LEDs you get in each unit. I did my front blinkers in the Toyota. Each one had two LEDs, I had to get the fancy relay to make them work. I think it costs me $25.

I put Semi-truck style rear LEDS on my '72. Didn't do anything but custom wire them into the system. I took them off when I re-styled the bed and haven't got them re-installed or I'd get pics.
Them suckers are bright!

EDIT: You must use an electronic (heavy-duty) flasher for LED's to work. the old click-style won't get enough current to heat the element and it might or might not blink. The electronic ones don't care.
I already had one in my truck, but Greg's link reminded me about it.

ok i think for 5 or 10 bucks Autozone has the electronic flasher. Guess that one will be quiet? or will it still click?

i put the big round red ones on my 66 f250 4x4 bed, did not ever think of needing a different flasher & they have worked fine for several years. very bright.

I guess i cold try it with the original stuff and if i have to can move up to the electronic flasher.

I found that the light duty flasher will work a little bit better.

The reason it might work w/ the light duty flasher is you have more than one bulb on the circuit to "load" the flasher. If you have all L.E.D. lights on the curcuit, then you would have to have the electronic flasher because of the load wouldn't be enough to heat the bi-metal relay.
The fact that they don't burn out (almost never), and use less power is why they are being used more and more in new vehicles. Wires are smaller, etc.

yes , i do have more bulbs than just the led's on that circuit.
