1968 F-100 Seats

Post by GMan »

I recently bought a 1968 F-100 Custom Cab. He needs work, obviously. But before I begin I am trying to learn as many of the little details as possible. One of those details is the bench seat in the truck. The body code indicates that the interior is maroon. The seat is of vinyl-type, darker maroon trim with an off-white color in the seat, backrest areas. The seat appears to be original but I can't seem to find any pics that show two-tone seats. I have scoured the internet with little success. Can anyone direct me to a site, or a book that would tell me more about the seats and in particular the color patterns for this year of truck? I will take a picture in the coming days and post it. Thanks very much.

what does the rest of the plate say below the vin? the reason i ask is that there are three differnt codes for red in 68 as shown on this page. http://www.fordification.com/data-1968.htm when they have codes like that they can be two toned interiors like the seat can be like you said. i think if i am reading it right.

I don't have all the information from the data plate with me right now, but the body code is "E". I'm not sure if one of the previous owners changed the upholstery. I will post a picture of the seat when I get home tonight.

The rest of my data plate reads as follows:

131 MJ F100 E 81 C E9

05000 183 3900 17

I have also posted a picture of the seat itself. Keep in mind the a former owner painted the interior of the truck, and I'm not sure if he painted in a different color than the original and then did something with the seat. This whole seat has become a bit of a thorn in my side. If anyone can offer any insight I would appreciate it, or maybe suggest some good F100 reference books, etc. Thanks very much.

Thanks Keith. I didn't think there would have bee such an elaborate seat color configuration, but I didn't know for sure. Any way to figure out what color the seats and interior would have been? Thanks.

it looks good. i had mine reupolster just like that all in the same dark red color. your original color is probably pretty close to the sides of the seat now.

That is a nice seat...but I personally would not have it in a truck of mine.

But, it does look good.
