FORDification is growing....time to upgrade

Post by FORDification »

Well, the time has come for the account upgrades that I was hoping wouldn't have to come for a while. I was checking this evening, and the site is now using a total of 493 of the 508 MB alloted to me (which includes the actual site content, the forums and the Photo Galleries), so before adding anything more I'm gonna have to buy more server space from my host. Also, I'm alloted 40GB of bandwidth, and in February we came very close to reaching that limit, and with all the new members we've acquired lately, it's pretty much a given that unless the bandwidth limits are increased, the current limit will be exceeded before the end of the month. I talked to the boss last night (my wife) and was given the OK to make the account upgrades...but they come at a cost. The next step up is about triple what we're currently paying.

So, as much as I dread doing asking, if anyone out there would like to make throw a few bucks into the kitty to help out, it would sure be appreciated. The site isn't going anywhere...even if I pay for the whole thing out of my own pocket...but a few bucks here and there would sure come in handy.

If you want to help out with the hosting and bandwidth fees, CLICK HERE.

Thanks! :D

Keith, I've been a loner for the most part... last time I remember belonging to anything that resembled a group was when I was a Cub Scout back around the time when JFK was President...

Got into this forum and have been having fun reading and sounding off!

Anyway, I can appreciate what it must be to run one of these sites without ads and sponsors... You're doing something pretty astounding as far as this ol' intentional peasant is concerned

I put a little into the kitty... a lot to me but small for the cause... Hope you get lots of positive response!!

Count me in, it seems a very small price to pay for all the info and entertainment. Love the site.

Keith you might want to check out "brad Barnett the mustang source" .
He only started out with a 1 page website and turned it into the biggest mustang site for resources.

He also didn't want to advertise but the site grew so big that it became nessesary and it was done in a good manner with a ad banner at the top and thats it .
plus you might want to check it out for set up it's done very well much like yours and it is family oriented with no bashing or name calling if possible.

I have been a member for his site for a while and watch it grow before I joined (much like yours) .I can see the same going on here .Check it out and see what you think .

Hi Keith, sent you a PM earlier and you should see my donation next week. I've been thinking  ( I know a bad thing ), is there anything that we as members can do to cut down on the space that is being used? I know you have a size limit on the pics, but, would it help if we just chose the best pics ( in our own mind anyway ) of our trucks and deleted any miscellaneous pics that either haven't been viewed too much or that we felt don't really need to be shown? Just trying to help.

Oh, by the way, I liked the reference from above about this site saving folks money, maybe if we all sent in the money that we first saved on any info obtained from here I bet we'ld still be ahead. Come on everybody let's dip in and help out.

Nah, don't worry about trying to prune your Photo Galleries....I don't want for us to be pinching everything so tight that quality suffers. You get what you pay for, and the upcoming upgrades will double my server space allotment, and I really doubt we'll come close to that for a long time. If we do, we can cross that bridge at that time. With the donations received so far we're getting semi-close to what we're gonna need to cover all fees to upgrade for a full year anyway...and with double the server space, there will be plenty of room for everyone.

Upgrading the account is also going to allow me to add some features to the site and forums that I've been wanting to do anyway, but couldn't due to account restrictions. :D

I appreciate the thought, though....thanks!

That's a good point about conserving space with the pics. I always feel bad when attaching a technical pic in a post, it hogs a lot of space for the purpose it serves. Can you recommend a hosting site that links well with the forum? I've had bad luck using Webshots here and on other forums too.
