? first year FM radio was an option?
Hello all... I was wanting to put an old style radio in my truck... Trying to stay original... But i need to have FM. I have a ten disc Cd changer going in, but i want all the visible stuff to look original.
Anyhow... When was the first year Fm was an option? And does anyone know where i can pickup an old style radio?
LMK, thanks!

re: ? first year FM radio was an option?
'71 and '72 were the only bumpside model years with AM/FM radios. Good luck finding one...they're not very plentiful, and usually get big bucks on E-bay whenever they show up there.
I've heard through the grapevine that '78-'79 trucks' AM/FM radios will fit our bezels, but not the '73-'77 versions. If you find a '78-'79 unit in a junkyard truck, it might be worth the effort to snag it and find out for sure.

Fords weren't digital until the '80's AFAIK.

Not sure on the exact year, but in 75' you could get an "FM Tuner" as an add on to your stock AM radio. Have one in my 75' Granada, which came as a Dealer Demo. The tuner mounts under the dash, kind of like a little CB.

This place can convert your original am radio to am/fm with modern parts. A little pricey, but it would be as original as you can get. http://www.turnswitch.com/
