New Here! Looking For all Advice 1972 F250 4X4 Crew Cab

Post by crewcablover »

:hmm: I'm looking for all and everybodys advice on finding, buying, building and restoring a 1972 F250 4X4 Crewcab. I do not own one at this time. I'm looking and searching the net to find one.

Some of my questions are:

If I find a 2 wheel drive, can I change it over to a 4 wheel drive without alot of troubles?

What size of engine would everybody put into it? (IE: I will be using it to 4X4 and hauling, and a daily driver)

Could a power stroke engin be put into a older truck like that?

Can somebody diret me in finding pictures of all the differnt styles that the 1972 crewcab came in? (IE: short bed, long bed, flare side and any other styles)

Did they even make a F250 1972 4X4 Crew Cab?

What other years of 4X4 Ford frames would fit under a 1972 Crew Cab?

If anybody can think of any information that I might be interested in please feel free to tell me.

Looking forward to becomeing long time friends and user here at FORDification!!!

Thanks for all you time and help!!

Welcome to the forums! This is the right place to be.

I am not a crewcab kind of guy...but there are some here and I'm sure they'll chime in soon.

I would suggest scrolling to the top of the page and clicking on the "Photo Galleries" icon and look through them...lots of awesome photos of crewcabs and standard cabs.

I'd throw a 360 or 390 in there.

Good Luck and enjoy the site.

look in the classified around oregon. they seem to be quite common around here and usually decent in the $$$$ range.

Swapping to 4wd is a very involved process I have heard, with tons of man hours involved in that. Same exact thing with a powerstroke swap, plus it would he hard to find an entire swap... nonetheless fab mounts, and install the lot of electrical controls.

A 460 or 429 as mentioned before are great choices and can give good milage depending on how bad your torque addiction is

You will pretty much have to find one that is already 4x4 unless you are looking for an insane project.

Hope this helps..

:D Thanks for all the help so far! Have some more questions:

What years of 4X4 frames will fit under the 1972 Crew Cab?

Will a long bed extended cab frame fit under a short bed Crew Cab?

Thanks again for all the help!!!

CLICK HERE for a listing of wheelbases of Ford trucks. You're gonna find that the Supercabs are different enough in wheelbase that the Crewcab won't work...unless you're going to do some custom frame work. ;)
