Bit the bullet when I got my truck and got the Duralast Gold 34-DLG-has 800 CCA and 1000 CA. Cost $69 and has never missed a lick! Some things are just worth it in the long run, like a good battery! JMHO! 8)

I got a Duralast 34DT in my 250 it is rated 900 CCA 1000 Full Load. We tested it today since the Duralast 34 seems awful small for that amount of Current and it pulled 800 Full and 710 CCA.

Soon to toss an Interstate in it, a 27F, that pulls a true 1000 Full and 900 CCA.

I am scared of battery companies that buy repackaged batteries and sell them in there own name.

On another note the last owner wired the negative battery to a fender bolt and to the chassis but has no grounds on the engine. That explains my flaky gauges and the high speed miss.

So when looking for a new battery, I should be looking for a 27F?

Sears has a 27F DieHard with 710 CCA ($120), but that doesn't seem like much. I've been told to get 800-900 CCAs if possible...

I see AutoZone also has a GOLD-DURALAST 34DT-DLG (8YR, 800 CCA) for $72.99

Interstate has them for less than Sears.

Go to www.dexonline.com and look up Interstate batteries in your area.

Thanks, kid... I did check out Interstate's website. Seems around here it's mostly small garages and shops, excepting the local Honda dealer. However, the one thing I did not find was a 27F that pulls a true 1000 Full and 900 CCA. Do you know the model number of it??

No. I need to look, full 1000s are not that common as 1000 amp hours on a truck means 1000 amps for one hour. That would require two cables that are called 750MCM or about 2-1/4 inches across each to handle that current.

I just popped into the local interstate shop I use and told them what I wanted.

I need that rating for running an inverter to recharge our tool batteries.

ah... I wondered why you were going so big on it. Makes sense. I'm not running any tool batteries, so I don't think I need that. From the prices I saw, though, the Interstates around here were more $$ than the DURALAST 34DT.

I think I might just pick one of those up from Autozone. They and the Diehards are both made by Johnson, and the Sears battery is almost twice the $$.

Duralast is not made by Duralast though and that scares me.

The main battery makers are Exide, Delco, Interstate and GE.

Duralast is a poor man's Exide. Exide sells to Johnson. Now my boom trucks Genset that gives me electrical and hydraulics is powered by a Exide deep cycle and funny that Autozone sells two different batteries on the surface but in reality are not. I pay better than 78 for my deep cycle 22 DT 800 full and 675 CCA.

From Exide.

34R 34R-84N 770 950 120 amps charge for 25 minutes
27F 27F-84N 700 850 120 amps charge for 25 minutes

From Johnson
BXT-USA-2 800 Silver Series 34DT
No 27 series.

I couldn't locate those Exide's... at least, not online.

I did find this one (official battery of Nascar):

78DT-M108** 12V 770CCA 950CA 120RC

http://marathon.exide.com/battery.aspx
or
http://extreme.exide.com/

Hard to find, though... lousy market penetration for a battery that is affiliated with something as big as NASCAR.

Almost all the batteries in this country are built by 3 companies, Johnson Controls, Exide or Deka. They all label batteries for many different companies. Delco went bankrupt and was bought by Johnson Controls. I work for Exide.
The high cranking amp batteries are OK for rigs that get used every day, but aren't so hot for something that sits for long periods. They will go dead faster just sitting than a lower CCA battery because there isn't as much acid in them. All the space is taken up by plates. They also have higher warrenty rates because the plates are much closer together which makes it easier to short out. The Nascar and Marathon batteries are available at all CSK stores(Checker, Schucks, Kragen) Nascar batteries are sold at NAPA.
Make sure you are comparing apples to apples. CCA's are cranking amps at 0 deg F. CA's are cranking amps at 32 deg. F. RC is reserve capacity. That is how many minutes the battery can put out 25 amps before it gets down to 10.4 volts. Most batteries that say 1000 amps is the CA rating, which is about 20% higher than the CCA rating. It's real hard to get 1000 CCA out of an automotive size case. They just can't get enough plates in there.
