Replacement Radio Speaker

Post by ToughOldFord »

Anyone know of an adequate replacement speaker for the in dash 5x7? I'd like something that can use the original tension mount without too much alteration. Problem is the magnet housing is square and the mount fits over it.
I look in the technical data here, Fordification has everything :fr: , and found the specs for the original speaker and the replacement numbers. I did a search on the replacement numbers, but only came up with results on a Jensen replacement on an ebay auction that was over.
LMC crack their heads, they want 50 something dollars for one.

That's what I was thinking, I was hoping to find something new, but I'll keep my eyes open in the yards.

Instead of replacing the speaker, I have been considering replacing the cone. Here is one source. rjmcgee (@) voyager.net Cost was about $45 and takes couple of weeks.

I bet a 6x8 would be just close enough. I had a 6x8 in my old truck I didn't have the tension mount originaly so i never got to check it out.

I bought a dual voice cone replacement speaker off ebay a few years back and will use that. Not really high end, but should be better than the factory speaker and a lot shallower so the bracket thing won't matter.

I bought one from radio shack for my 71 F-100. The guy told me he only had a couple left. I think they were going to quit carrying them. But not sure about that. It fit with very little modification.

All things considered, I didn't think that was a bad price at LMC for a dual-voice cone speaker that allows you to run both speaker lines from newer stereos to it. They have a second speaker that also sounds interesting, but it looked like you'd have to do some modding to make it work.
