re: My new CB
All this talk about radios makes me want to dig out mine. I'll put my modified 2950 in my Jeep and the 148GTL in the '67. In the '71, I'll put in a period correct Royce I have. Used to be my dads.

Re: re: My new CB
I believe that the FCC says no more than 4 watts on CB. I use to have an 250 watt amp hooked to my CB. I had a pushbutton overdrive that would kick off everytime I keyed the mike. I have a Cobra NightWatch that is peaked and tuned, but it does me no good in Fairbanks. Nobody here uses them. I have a Yaesu FT 8900R ham radio that does no good either for the same reason. So I just stick to the police scanner, at least I can listen.ezernut9mm wrote:god forbid anyone puts out more than three watts.:

re: My new CB
You can actually get more out of the Presidents then the Cobras. Upwards of 12 watts! Dead key at 4 and swing to 12. If you get it to swing the right direction, that is. I remember a lot of guys looking for Presidents over the Cobras for that reason.

Before i had the big final put in mine i was talking 20 miles with my 29. But i was also out in utah so the air waves were a lot cleaner and no buildings to hinder trans or recv.

re: My new CB
Got the power cord today and it works well. Im going to have it sent to a CB shop in Texas. Im going to have it peaked and tuned. Itll be coming back with a new antenna, mic, and faceplate.

re: My new CB
Get the roadking 56 mic or the astatic 636L you will be much happier and who ever hears you will not have to deal with a super bass sound from your end. The stock mics have a real deep bass to them and pic up all kinds of back ground noise. The attenna looked like aa fire stick. If so i would suggest the 36 or 48 inch version the 24 sucks big time. I have a coworker that had a 24 and i could hear ppl that he couldn't hear at all. But if you have the cash to spare IMO i would get the monkey made its a superb choice. Right now i have a striker and it is rated to handle 5000 watts of power. The only thing i don't like about it is the swr's climb at the higher end of the channel range. Just to give you a example on ch 1 i run about a 1.1 swr and on 40 i have about a 1.75 swr. Still with in good tolerance's but it should stay the same all the way to the top. If i had sidebands it would get even worse. Just something for you to ponder on from my lil bit of experience with cb's.

re: My new CB
As far as things coming with it I think ill go with the firestick "fs" series 5' blue antenna, Astatic 636L 4 Pin with Chrome Mike Head, and the flag faceplate

re: My new CB
I use a $40 cb from meijer. I think its a cobra works pretty good for me. I use two 5 ft dead sticks. I have a Royce 607 that was my grandpa's. It turns on but doesn't do anything. You think the cb shop up at the truck stop could find out whats wrong with it?
