i left my lights on, stupid stupid stupid so i set it up to the charger, how long should i charge it for, and when its fully charged what should it be at because the indicator is broken on the charger but i do have a multimeter, and on the multimeter what setting should i put it at? i really have no idea when it comes to electric work sometimes.
keep charging it until it hits over 12v, preferably about 13.5.
A tip for using a meter, always use a setting higher than you expect the voltage to go. A lower setting could fry the meter.
For 12 volt stuff, use the 20 VDC setting.
for household stuff, start with a setting over 220VAC. If the meter reading doesn't look right, go down one setting at a time until it does.

The guys from interstate battery told me to put it on the highest setting, until the battery starts to bubble, then cut it back to a trickle. They said that bringing the battery to a boil cleans the plates. They said that you can trickle charge it for a day or so, but to test it with, I think it is called a hydrometeor, until all cells test good.
This has always worked for me to bring back a dead battery.
something is wrong im thinking, it says it should only take around 5 hours, i left it on all night because at the 5th hour it was on there it was still at 10.24 and very slowly moved up to 10.25, like half an hour to move up .01 V, is this charger garbage or what? or is it the battery? its only at 10.52 now im gonna throw it somewhere real fast and hope it dont hit no one
ya its with the chager on, its set at 12V, its a pretty old and banged up international tractor charger. it hums, but i think its going up way too slow.
might be the battery and not the charger.i have one battery that will charge to 13V , but only turn the engine over 5 or 6 times before its too weak again.
i have a load tester, which tells the voltage of the battery while stationary and while under a load.a nice item i picked up in a pawn shop.

Charging time depends on the CCA rating of the battery and the amperage of the charger. As a rule of thumb it's best not to charge a battery at more than 10% of the CCA rating. A 500-600 CCA battery below 11.85 volts will take 14 hrs. to charge at 5 amps. A 700-800 CCA battery will take 18 hrs at 5 amps or 9 hrs at 10 amps. A 100% charged battery should be 12.75 volts or more. Most automatic charges will take them up to 14.5 volts, but some of that will be surface charge that will drop off quickly and leave the battery about 12.75
