Well, my flashers work now, too... I got my "new" ER flasher switch from fordman today and put it in tonight. When I flicked the switch on and off, I got nothing. Thought I must have had a bad wire or something. I was a bit disappointed, but figured I'd fix it later. At least I had a switch in one piece.
The weirdest thing happened, though... I decided to leave the switch installed and mess with it more later. Only, I accidentally left it in the "on" position. Then, as I was getting out of the truck, I accidentally hit the blinker switch and... emergency flashers!!
So as long as I have the ER flasher switch turned to "ON", AND have my blinkers turned on (left or right, doesn't matter), I get flashers.
Very bizzare. I could only find ONE flasher unit under the dash, and that was the one attached to the instrument panel. So my new flasher unit is also working with the ER flashers. My turn signals work fine, otherwise. No apparent problems. I turn off the ER flashers, and I'm back to normal blinkers.
So I'm not sure that's right, but it'll work if I need 'em... but does anyone have any ideas, or could it really have been set up that way?

I'll have to check... I've got a mess of wires in the cab and under the hood. Some of it under the hood is related to the Camper Special brake contraption. Most of it in the cab is related to the fact they somehow wired the horn to a push button instead of the column. But I don't know if they just ran another wire, or if they cut the column wiring. There was also a CB installed at one point (the mic clip is still there), so there is wiring from that. And they have the stereo wired to a speaker mounted under the dash by the glovebox.
It's going to take me some time to sort out all the wiring. Will probably start in earnst when I get ready to paint it sometime down the road. At that point I'll have to pull out stuff like the stereo and dash anyhow. Between now and then, I'm just trying to get it to work without breaking anything.
Most likely, I'll eventually pull out all the trailer brake stuff. I don't forsee myself using it, it appears not to be 100% original, and I don't know if it works properly even if I did hook it up. I'd have to re-do half of it anyhow to work with modern trailer lights, etc.

Interesting discovery tonight... when I pulled the instrument panel out to work on the issue with my dash lights, I found a couple of wires tucked up under the dash that were not connected to anything. These had the flasher-type connection, one wire a double-red lead and the other a single white wire with a red stripe. So I took my chances and hooked a flasher up to them and...
My Emergency lights are now working properly! The key does NOT have to be on, and the blinkers do not have to be on. I kept another flasher hooked up to the blinkers to make sure there was no interference, and there was not. And now I know what the mystery bracket was for... only now I don't have a bracket for the blinker flasher. Oh well... no biggie there.
FYI, my flasher for my blinkers was attached exactly as shown in this image: http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... tpanel.jpg
So now my blinkers and flashers are working properly. If only I could get my dash lights working...
