Thanks John,

Them young'uns just keep getting older (I don't of course)...my daughter is 17, oldest boy is 14, and the youngest 10...time flies when you're having fun I reckon.

Rebelrider,

We sure have. We live in Heidelberg, so the Heidelberg Castle is like common place now. There is the Schwetzingen Palace about 10 minutes down the road, huge! Has a sprawling grounds with mazes, gardens, etc...all huge.

We've been to King Ludwig's Castle and Palace...apparently he had several just in case one got boring. The Schools (Dept. of Defense Schools) do several different field trips to castles and palaces around the area.

One town we go to alot (for a specific restaraunt) is ancient. The majority of the buildings and houses were built in the 14, 15, and 1600's...really neat. Plus the city has uncivered a large set of ancient Roman ruins as well.

Alot of history over here...but I am real partial to the U.S. I am really ready to get home...I have spent 12 of my 20 years in the Army overseas...10 of those in Europe. So, I am ready to come home and stay (may take a detour to the desert again) but I plan on retiring in the next year or two.

No, all three were born at Ft. Campbell, Ky. We did two tours there, 6 years total (89-92 and 95-97).

The kids are excited to come back to the States. They will suffer culture shock though, as we are really in a protected society over here. Our installations are all gated, with armed guards...we police our own...everyone is here only because the Army says they have to be (Soldiers) or that they can be (Civilians, Family Members, Contractors, etc). When someone(civilians) messes up bad, they lose their logisstical support and are returned to the States...

All of our sporting events, which are actually alot, are truly amazing. We do not have fights, arguments...the kids get to be kids and play the game. I do enjoy that aspect of it. When they lose, the cheer with the other team, when they win, the other team cheers with them...it is a real sense of community here...but it ain't home!

We really have enjoyed it, got to learn some of the language, eat some awesome foods, see wonderful castles, palaces,a dn the like, and gotten alot of "culture", but all in all...I am an American and By God I love the United States of America...so here I come! :woohoo:
