My new CB

It really depends on what you want it for and how much you want to spend. I have about $500+ in my set-up. That's because I used to want directions or whatever and those "big" radios would cut me out. So mine was for business as well as pleasure.
The best thing is to find a reputable shop and have it peaked and tuned. You can usually get reccomendations on the cb. Do you want a mounted antenna or a magnetic one? Magnetic ones come with coax attached. But you get what you pay for there. Mine was custom built at a shop near here. My coax was built in the same shop. I also have a noise filter on mine, and as I said, a 100 Watt kicker I got in a deal. I've had many compliments on my sound quality.
So, you could buy a magnetic antenna and hook it up that way to get started. Some Wal Marts carry them. Then if you want to upgrade from there, find a good shop and work with them on how far you want to go.

Obviously, I know nothing about cb's. I thought you just hooked them up and turned them on. You guys know more than me so what should I get for mine?

I have a Royce 636. It is indeed NIB and looks like it has never been out of the plastic.

Give me specifics as to what antenna, cable, and anything else I need to install it.

I am looking for a good CB shop to check everything over for me but it looks like the nearest one may be more than 50 miles away.

Mine looks like the one above but its called a striker and has a lifetime warranty. If you want one of the big coil type and a magnetic mount i suggest this one it will not go any where with this one

I am planning on putting a small pop up camper that I am restoring on it. It has a small slide out bed over the cab that may interfer with a single mount in the center of the cab so I think I will go for the mirror mounts.

What would be a good shorter antenna for the dual mirror mounts? And what should I look for in a splitter for the antennas?

IMO i would go with just one two cuts down on the power of the radio. Besides you cant get them far enough apart to work right. It takes a min of 104" to make duals work right. But if you just like the looks go for it. I myself like the monkey made or viper or striker atennas. The striker has a full life time warranty. Even if you break it on a tree limb they will fix it for free. Bench checks and resets are free also. They are made in okla city here in okla. and sell for $70. I paid a full $100 for mine with the hd mirror mount and hd coax 18' of it. If you go with the duals use a t connector and not the plugs like the one for a am/fm radio those lose some of the trans and rec for some reason.

My conceren was with the length of the antenna. I plan on driving the truck alot and would hate to always have to worry about every drive through I come to with the 70" antenna.

Would this be a good one?

I got, finally, up to that CB World north of the Pilot. I had my cb peaked and tuned. I went from 4 watts to 27 for just $26.50.

Well if memory serves me right hook just the atenna to it to start with. Set to swr adjust try to get the lowest you can get. If it don't get any lower than 2 you may have to cut off some of the whip if it wont slide into the bottom part when the set screw is loosened. A 1.1 is the ideal setting you really want. Then hook to the radio and atenna turn to channel 1 and adjust swr again. Repeat again on ch 40. You might be able to goggle the model number and brand name and find a downloadable owners manual. Just remember i think its if swr is to high shorten it if its to low make it longer. You might have to call a shop just to make sure. Good luck in the search .

To anybody in the Kansas area.

Is there any place I can take my cb to get it peaked and tuned as well as the swr? I am closest to Hutchinson, Wichita, or Salina. I already checked the Wichita area and can't find anybody.

years ago there used to be a place in olathe called wheels communications. the guys name was pat he was in a wheel chair. i don't remeber his addrress or a phone number but he might still be around i don't know.
