Another Shoulder belt question

Post by 67merc »

Does anyone have pic's of some one wearing a choulderbelt in our trucks? I'm not sure if the 68's on have the shoulderbelt hole drilled into the rear wall of the cab or if it was moved to the side.

I am wondering if the shoulder strap would ride too high to be practical. This probably wouldn't make a difference with my boys in seats with strap guide but they probably wouldn't want their mom losing her head!

My 69 has the hole in the back of the cab. I can't remember if this changed to the side in 70 or not.

All bumpside trucks have the threaded hole for the shoulder mount. Look up behind you, it's probably got a black rubber plug stuck into it. Pop the plug out and viola', there you go.

Check out this thread for some pics:

yes 68 has them in the rear of the cab. i think they changed in 70 or maybe it was 71. but as far as how high they are they are probably to high for me. the ones in my 94 are slightly to high for me. they rub my neck. i have to twist the belts together before i buckle them to keep it off my neck.

Yeah, mine has the bolt holes on the rear wall of the cab. I was really wondering about it rubbing too high on my neck. Is there a part we could bolt on to guide the shoulder strap to a lower position?

i think they make a plastic deal that will hold the strap coming now around your neck to the part of the belt that comes up to the rear bolt holder. i have not tried to find one but it is on cars that i have seen years ago.

Sure...it's the same thing used for children. It's called a 'booster seat'.

 Sorry, that was too easy.

Since your truck doesn't have a shoulder-belt setup now, you're probably going to find one in a junkyard vehicle, so just find a setup from a van, for example. Since their attachment point is even higher than our trucks, they basically use an extension to allow it to drop down lower. Using something like that in our trucks would drop it down quite a bit. At work we have a '90-something Ford van with the setup like this, and I've been kinda eyeballing it for my own truck:

Or you could try something like this:

I totally walked into that one!

That is exactly what would work!
I just happen to have a Ford van sitting in my driveway. Mr. Merc was joking about me parting it out... I think I scare the neighbours in suburbia as it is but I may not be able to resist tearing into the old van!

BTW, the carseat freak in me must mention that using the positioner shown in the link would cause major internal injuries in a crash.
