Turn signal/parking light blunder...

Post by old_mare »

Hi,

I may be a mechanic, but electrical is all greek to me. :?

My running lights go off when I turn my headlights on. The RH turn signal does not flash, and when you manually "flash" the turn signal with the brake on, the entire light goes out.

I have replaced many a bulb thinking that was part of it, but I know now for a fact it is not. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

The '67-'69 pickups' parking lights are designed to turn off whenever the headlights are on. Beginning in '70, due to 'new' Federal safety regulations, a wiring change made the parking lights stay on with the headlights. The change was in the wiring harness, not in the headlight switch, which remained the same from the previous year and also by going to a dual-filament socket with the front parking lights. You can add a simple jumper wire between the to accomplish this on a '67-'69 truck. Click here to view the schematic.

The brake lights override the turn signals. That way folks behind you will know when you hit the brakes when your signals are on. You say the right signal doesn't flash...does the left flash?

I'm a wrench too. Find and clean all your grounds up real good.
Start there. Bulb sockets too!
