dying carpet

I'm wondering how dying carpeting would turn out? I have an almost perfect light blue carpet in my parts truck and am considering trying to dye it black for the 4x4. Anyone ever tried this?

i havent treid it but i kbow that they sell clothing die(at least they used to)i think that should work pretty good but youd probably want it to soak in the stuff at least over night if youreally want it to stay permanent-good luck

I know it's done commercially but it's fairly expensive. I found on the net that they sell an aerosol spray but don't know anyone that tried it. I also read about using Ritz dye in a spray bottle. Just wondering if this works and is worth the effort.

My dad used to use that RIT dye on carpets...you mix the dye, sok the carpet, dry it, and then he would run it through a clothes dryer to set the dye.

I do not recall it runing or anything through time.

LMC Truck sells Colorbond. I haven't tried it to see how well it works, though.

Well' I can forget about dyeing the carpet, went out today to start removing it and it fell apart!

Great looking, hardly any wear, and ROTTEN. Just my luck! Oh well, I'll probably just order a new rubber floor mat from LMC. With the mud and muck I'm usually in it would be better anyway.
