Rear Sliding Window

Post by crash_552 »

How do I know if it is factory installed on a Ranger Custom Cab?
Or even a factory Ford window?

Sliders appeared in '70, standard on Camper Special.

Factory would say CarLite etched on glass.

So I'm technically not supposed to have one......unless possibly the original owner ordered one?

It was an option for any model, just standard on CS's.

My '72 Explorer has a sliding rear window that has "carlite" in the glass,so I'm assuming it's factory....Didn't the "custom cab" designation end in '67 or so?...What year is your truck?...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!

Your truck is either a Custom Cab OR a Ranger...it can't be both. The three trim levels for '67-'69 trucks were:

base model
Custom Cab
Ranger

The '70-'72 trucks had a Custom, Sport Custom, Ranger and Ranger XLT.

Keith take a look in his photo galley, he's got 'em both. It's a frankenstein.

Yeah, it's definitely been mixed-and-matched. I'd venture a guess that it's a Custom Cab truck and a previous owner installed the Ranger box. The interior has the correct '69-only Teakwood woodgrain appliques under the instrument panel, but it doesn't have the matching instrument panel.

Oh well...mine's more of a Frankenstein than that! :P

Looking at it a little more, I think it's a true Ranger. All the Ranger stuff inside and out is there except for the instrument cluster. The custom gauge cluster (off a non-Ranger) was probably being built while the original was still in there so the truck wouldn't be down so long. In fact, maybe that cluster came out of a Custom Cab and they yanked off the emblems at the same time. Those emblems look to be mounted a tad too high to be stock, the guy should of measured first.

Well, what you see is EXACTLY how I bought it. Except the intake(I had to have some pieces welded back together, it didn't run too good with a hole in it :D )

I'm baffled as much as anyone else. So you think it probably started life as a Ranger and someone got emblem happy???

Speaking of FrankenTrucks-- how about a 1969 F250 Ranger custom cab camper special with a 460, 2 wheel drive, with the Dolphin camper from Ford, factory installed a/c, power brakes, power steering, manual windows. 100% factory original, with papers.
