Post by alvinator »

ok, i was talking with some guys at the shop last night and I found out that there is a guy down the street that does upolestry work and would take the dash from my truck and would fix the cracks and recover the dash for $100.00. Do you think this is a good deal or not?

Considering that new dash pads are around $400, I'd say it's a real good deal!

:yt: I would want to see his work to decide. If he does good work, jump on it.

What would he cover it with? I'm thinking this might not work out. I think you'd be better off getting one off of eBay.

I had a guy who was gonna fix the cracked dashpad in my Galaxy convertible one time (many moons ago), he did alot of dashes and doorpanels for Vette guys. Swore up and down i'd never know where it was repaired, etc. He brought me back this lumpy looking dash pad. I guess it looked better than what it did before. However, I've also seen guys take a cracked dashpad (my Dad's 68 C-10) and cover it with thin layer of foam and make a vinyl cover and that looked great once it was tightened down and on the truck. I also had a buddy who ran an upholstery shop (again eons ago) that made me a vinyl slipon cover for my Cougar XR-7 dashpad and it looked great.
So, it depends. I'm not a big believer on the magic body filler or permatex (or whatever it is) solution stuck to the original dashpad and it "blending in". but I am a believer that someone who knows what they're doing can cover an existing dashpad with a vinyl slipcover (padded or not) and it can look very good. I have thought about this on my 68 Ranger with cracked to heck factory dashpad and unsure which route I want to do. banjo.

I will try to find out more this weekend about this guy and what he plans on doing, as far as work wise, to get a better feel if I want to use him or not.

If you knew it was going to come out looking as good as this one did, I'd go for it:

I saw a bumpside in a junkyard that had a sewn on dash cover...Grain pattern and fit looked pretty good, but the seams are visible where the contour of the dash changes...
This is the point...I'm....talking about everybody! I'm talking about form! I'm talking about content! I'm talking about interrelationships! I'm talking about God, the devil, hell, heaven!!!! Do you understand???? Finally!!!!
