Ignition will not work.
Several years ago, I had a new end placed on the steering column. Once I put the column back in place, I cannot get the key to turn over the starter or solenoid to engage. I ran wires from the solenoid to a toggle and it will start fine. Do I have some wires pinched, or something not connected? The truck is a 67, 240ci engine. Thanks.

Is it an automatic?

Yep, that's what I was going to suggest too. Since it was working up until the time you started messing with the column, I'd be willing to bet that the neutral safety switch either didn't get reconnected or got damaged while the column was out.
Wiring in a toggle switch bypasses the NSS.

Thanks.
Is the NSS part of the main harness or is it off by itself?
Man, these forums are great. Thanks for taking time to reply.

It's off by itself, at the bottom of the column inside the cab like in this pic:
and this is it's connector on the left, truck harness connector on the right:

Sure you can bypass it, on the truck connector end jumper together the two Red/Blue Stripe wires, it'll start in any gear.

I haven't checked yet, but could there have been internal damage to the wiring inside the steering column?

I would junkyard it before I paid $120 for any piece. Worth a shot anyway...in fact I have a junkyard NSS if anyone is interested.

Re: re: Ignition will not work.
There's no wiring inside the column for the NNS, it's all on the outside. There is a lever coming out of the top of the column that actuates the NSS switch which is mounted on the outside. Sometimes the lever can break off. See my 1st pic above, it shows the lever pushing against the NSS.JWW wrote:I haven't checked yet, but could there have been internal damage to the wiring inside the steering column?
