For those of you have been around the forums for a while, you know that I've tried out several different chat venues, but none of them really seemed to work out well, so they got the boot. I've decided to try it again.

I've set up a page with basically a web interface to an IRC chat. I've been tinkering around with it all day, trying different things, and it seems to be working OK. This will be a great way of those of you who don't have (or don't care to use) other chat programs.

Right now I'd just like for you all to go there and play around with it for a few minutes and tell me what you think. I mainly need to know that everyone can access the page and that everything appears to function as it's supposed to. Because this is a free service, I really don't have a lot of say in how it looks or functions, but if there's problems I'll see what I can do.

If it appears that everyone can access this just fine, then sometime in the near future we're going to initiate a weekly (or bi-weekly) chat time, at a time when most users are apt to be online....probably around 8-10 PM CST (we'll see how that part goes) and see if maybe we can't get a bunch of us together on a regular basis to shoot the bull. Also, for those of you who already use an IRC client (like mIRC), you can access the chat through that, by using AfterNET as your server and then logging into the #FORDification channel.

ah, dammit. The chat server has some IP address blocks blacklisted (banned) because of abuse from other people. I'll have to see what I can do about that.

But I will say you do give it your best for us all the time and I am thankful

Got the same result as 72hiboy4x4. If my kids have any been to a chat room on this machine I doubt we ever got baned. Must be another issue.

I "think" I connected but noboby wants to talk to me . I probably, definitely screwed it up. . Never did this chat stuff. I'm more of a read it, think about it, respond kind a guy.

OK, you guys who are having problems logging in, there's a way around it, but you'll have to jump through a few hoops. If you go to http://www.afternet.org/content/view/54/12 you'll see a short tutorial on why your IP address has been banned, and what you can do to get a temporary exemption from the ban, by using the RBL exemption form. You'll need your IP address (the error message like Mike posted above will give that to you).

It's a 60-second task, but like I said, it won't be permanent. I'm going to keep working on trying to make it so. However, if too many users aren't able to access this, then I might just have to try something else. I really like this setup, but if everyone can't get in, then it's not what we need, and I'll keep looking.

granitestate68: you did it right...I was logged in but had to leave for a while, when I came back I saw your log-in. You were posting just fine, there just wasn't anybody in there at the time you were.
