Wow, looks like someone got weld happy. It's going to be one smooth truck.
I've thought of having those cowl vents welded in too. Would help to keep trash out from inside the truck as well. What are the benefits of those vents? Any harm in welding them up?

actualy the vents on both sides of the cab on the inside of the kickpanel draws air from there same with the heater system.
its the fresh air intake for the cab/heater.
But i bet you could find a one way style air filter type thing that kept water and leaves out. its the leaves that actualy cuase the biggest problem in that area.

actauly as long as its drain at the bottom is not clogged i bet the mesh styl from the later style trucks would work ok the wholes are kinda tooo small for the leaves to get past them.

The cowl is open at the bottom on the sides though too(for drainage) so welding up the vent openings on top shouldn't hurt anything. The 'fresh air' can still come up from the bottom but it won't be 'forced' in while driving down the road like it is in front of the windshield. Some could also argue that the air isn't quite as 'fresh' down there either?!?!

That looks good. Do you think you could start a new thread in Paint & Body to tell us how you removed the drip rails? I want to do this on my 63 bu I am not sure how to do it.
Thanks,...OH and WELCOME!
