Dash lights dont work

Post by worldsmysterie »

i have been avoiding this problem for some time now but no longer can i go on like this. my dash lights don't work, i know its not the bulbs cause i checked that (Dash was hard to put back on) does anyone know if it might be the wiring or something and is there a easy way i can rewire it.
thanks.

Probably your headlight switch is bad. :2cents:

I second that. Might try twisting the switch knob back and forth some, and see if they flicker back to life. My dash lights just started mysteriously working last week (for the first time in months), and I figure it's from driving it and using the light switch.

I have the same problem with mine. I have to twist my knob back and forth until they light up.

before u start ripping your dash apart, get a new headlight switch. there is a spring in the back of it that controls the brightness of the lights. in my case, the spring was broken and falling out because the plastic holding it in was rotting. it took me 5 mins to change mine and it works great now. :fr: :2cents:

Speaking of the p-i-t-a of getting the light switch out, could we elaborate on that a bit? My dash lights dont work, well 1/2 of them 1/2 the time...so I bought a new switch. I am also installing the wood grain panel from a ranger around the switches....I have the ignition out and the wipers, I am also upgrading to the intermittant switch.
Any help....
Thx,

Hey Thee,

wuzzzuppp bro ???
(no really guys, he is my brother... same mom dad and everything)
We inherited the bump gene from the same place...
a '70 F-250 Camper Special Sport Custom that originally belonged to our step dad. That was one bad a_ _ rig.

Did ya get yer lighting problem figured out... I had that problem with my '68 (I mean the pickup not the bump bus) mine was the light switch itself... everything is workin' like a champ now...

On another note... I got a package in the mail from a fellow member, Fossil Dog today... it was a gauge cluster for the bump bus... This thing looks like it's nos.
I repainted the instrument panel housing with 2 coats of Rusolium rust converter then a couple of coats of Rustolium flat black... I painted the panel face with a couple of coats of rust converter then 4 or 5 coats of Rusolium gloss white. It's gonna look real tight with the new gauge cluster from Fossil Dog...
Still have a few things that need to be done inside the panel before I can button it up, but I can't wait to see it all put back together.

love ya bro...

Yeah we put that thing through the ringer, hell I bought it from him twice.....lol. Growing up in the mountians of North Cal, it just kinda came naturally, hauled a full cord of fresh cut green wood, jumped ditches, airborne in the bottom of a dried up lake bed.....ect, ect, oh those were the days....lol.
That might be a good thread, "What is the toughest thing you ever did in/with your Bumptruck",
Yeah I got my new switch in, not sure if it fixed the dash lights yet tho. The bulbs look good as does the circuit, so I figgerd switch. I am putting in the woodgrain from a ranger under the switches tomorrow, installed my intermittant wiper switch. That's about all I could stand for one day. I do have a question for ya, how is the guage bezel on the 71? Mine is pretty rough, and one of the screw holes broke out today pulling it. I bid up to 80 bucks on one and got outbid, any more than that and I'll just get it form Carpenter's.

Back atcha Bro...
