Is there anyone here that would be interested in a site for 73 to 79 model Pick ups?

I would probably visit, but I'm looking for a 61-66 site. I've been working on the guys that run Slick 60s a little (it's on an MSN group and that just sucks compared to this). I sent Keith a note about this, but have not heard a reply. Maybe he's "thinking" about it! :D I don't know enough about computers to run one of these things, or I would. But what I thought would be cool would be a large main site (I like the name of Fordification, but that's Keiths baby). Once you click on the main home page, you could have other completely separate sites, maintained by other people like Keith for 67-72s, Docholiday for 73-79s, etc. But, each site would have a similar look and feel, ie no one would know they are not formally linked. That way each person would only have responsibility for their era of truck site, but users that want to browse around could do so on what appears to be one site. Also, there is lots of carryover from each era, so the tech could be a combined effort. Plus have a huge awesome gallery section and a great classifieds area broken out into model years.
It just seems to me that there would be lots of synergy and sharing of the burden of common areas. Eventually Keith is going to need to expand his moderator base due to the growth he is experiencing anyway. Not trying to bring things down or forecast doom, but as it gets bigger, I have a feeling you're going to need help anyway. This may be a way to do that, increase the sharing of job roles and keep your site the way you like it. I am willing to help, but not sure I know enough to do anything more than get in the way and cause even more problems than I already have

Whoops, sorry....yes, I was giving it some thought and going over the logistics of such a proposal, and then got sidetracked, and....well, you know how it goes. ;)

When I first started this site, it was basically just to chronicle the restoration efforts for my '67 project...nothing more. This was back when I was still a member at the Dark Side...and in the process of trying to research various things for the project. After getting fed up with how I couldn't get any complete or uncensored answers to my questions over there, and not finding any other viable alternatives, I decided to add my own little forum to the site where we could ask and answer questions freely. To be honest with you, I never really expected it to take off like it has. I'm truly amazed. But it just shows you that people are fed up with the crap they have to put up with over there....and that smaller free sites similar to FORDification but for other generations of trucks are sorely needed.

But keep in mind that creating a website like this is a LOT of work...many, many manhours! It's a huge commitment. For the most part, I'm in front of the computer almost from the time I get home at night until I go to bed, either working on the site or answering questions here on the forum. My computer workspace is set up in the finished basement of our house, and there are a lot of times when my wife and kids are ustairs playing, watching TV together, etc. that I miss out on, because I'm here instead. And although I have a very patient and understanding wife, she's let it be known that she doesn't like all the time I'm on the computer. And when I'm not in front of the computer, I'm at the shop, either working on my truck or taking pictures to be used for a tutorial or to answer forum questions. I have no life, so it works for me. ;) But I'm a perfectionist, and just want the site and forums to be the best they can be.

Also, you've got to be at least semi-competent with an HTML editor (like FrontPage), a graphics editor (like Photoshop) and to create and maintain a board like this you've got even more (and different) stuff to learn. Plus, I've invested quite a bit of money into buying various related memorabilia (brochure, manuals, etc.) specifically to post to the site to share with you all. This all comes out of my own pocket.

I think something like what you suggest could work as a collaboration from many different people....but it would still be a large undertaking. I'd be willing to help whenever and wherever I can, though.

Thanks for listening Keith. And I KNOW what a time commitment it is for you and that in part is what a proposal like mine is set out to help solve. You would share the burden and like other sites I'm familiar with moderation could be done in shifts.
Ofcourse, if nothing changes here as far as collaboration goes, I know there are people here that are willing to help moderate. I'm not trying to make more work for you, buddy-I'm trying to make less! If you haven't already, just think about the future and the growth rate you've already experienced and what that will mean to your time and how will you handle that growth. Also, I know I and probably others would totally understand if you sold some advertising here to make it more worth your while. (Just don't make it as intrusive as the dark side!) We want to keep this great thing going and not burn you out. I know you are sometimes to shy or maybe proud is a better word to ask for help, but a lot people here care about this (and you!), but don't realize what it takes for it to continue. Anyway, I'm sure you've given this lots of thought.

I wasn't sure how to get in touch with Ken, so I had emailed Dennis and told him I didn't understand why I got booted. He forwarded the email to Ken and he finaly emailed me back and told me he did not apreciate me going behind his back (not sure what he means by that) and gave me his phone number in case I wanted to discuss my being booted man to man. I emailed him back and told him man to man is not over the phone, it is face to face. I also told him after realizing what FTE is realy about, I realy have no desire to be a member. I went on to tell him that if he has any members with a desire for good answers on their trucks and good people to visit with that it would be a good idea to refer them to Fordification.
So as a fair warning to any one who lives near him.....you may soon hear a sonic boom. Don't be overly concerned, it's just Ken's blood preasure going to the moon.
72 Highboy, I don't have a clue as to even start a web site. I'm currently trying to get educated on it. I'm actualy a lot more talented with a wrench than I am a computer. In the mean time, I have done lots of modifications to my 73 and would be happy to answer anything that I can for you. I also have a shop manual and I'm not afraid to use it. :D

yea thats me in a nutshell! but what real man reads the instructions?? I say just throw 'em out first then try to figure it out!!

Like keith, I get distracted by to many things. then I never get anything done the way I want it! 70 hrs a week at work makes for not a lot of ambition to do anything on the truck at night. then its about all I can do to keep 3 vehicles running for work all the time (2 workers+ 40 miles each way trip to work+ leaving at different times= need 3 dependable vehicles!)
but when I can, I like to try different things on my trucks. I like to do fabrication like bumpers, trailers, ect.
I am trying to learn computer language, but I just can't get it enough to do anything with it. oh well......

Shrek, that's a good idea. A 4x4 site I frequent does a similar thing (Pirate 4x4 http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/ ) and it works real well. But theirs is more interactive where the vendors post sales, deals, announcements, etc. The rules in the vendor area are very strict about no bashing, no chit chat, etc. Just questions to the vendor and requests for pricing or ordering. It's pretty cool because once a month they give away stuff. I know several people that have won stuff more than once. I don't post there much anymore, so I always forget to enter. That site is very successful and on the other pages, like tech there seems to be no threshold for vendor bashing and in fact more than once I've seen vendors come on to defend themselves. Gets really interesting at times!

They kicked me off 67-72 FTE forum as well. You know these trucks are not brain surgury. I just wanted to have some enjoyment and pick up some tips about my truck. Not be treated like a school child. JZ

Well I tested the 'survey' FTE has going, (the one where they say email addy's are only for contacting the winners of t-shirts!) and 3 days later I am blacklisted ,too!!!
so the test comes out positive and there is proof for anyone that wants to see it!

Welcome fellars! This place is awesome. For you 61-66 style folks, not alot here on them, but we are glad to have you anyway. I grew up with my dad's 68 F100, but my best friend, his dad had a 64 that we cruised around in all the time. Lots of memories of those 2 F100's. Man, we wore the roads out.

Anyway, welcome indeed. Enjoy the forum and the site. Keith has compiled what I think is the most exhaustive reference publication on the 1967-1972 Ford truck than anyone other than Ford itself...and well, they just don't have nothing published on the internet. So, hang around, we'll get more than one chance to ask you guys some questions.

Garbz and Iceman! WELCOME :D You might know me as A-Comet. These '67-72 guys are my homies  I've owned several of them, and just bought my first Slick last month.
I think you'll agree that Keith has done an awesome job with this site!

Garbz, you're not alone in bringing Ken down! Actually if we could talk Keith into opening this up, I'm sure we'd realize that dream (and I know it's a secret dream of Keith's too  )

Anyway, if you do some searching here, you'll see several posts and complimentary references to our brothers on Slick 60s site too. Glad you two decided to join the party...now we gotta get you in a 67-72!
