Adding aftermarket guages to dash lights

Post by 69rangerman »

I've added a few after market guages and would like to tie into the panel light/dimmer function. I noticed that they light up when I touch them to the fuse but have a feeling that just jamming wires in there is NOT the way to go.

Can anybody advise me on best way?

Thanks

I know you can tie them into the dimmer switch function you just need to find the right wire that feeds the other dash lights. If I'm not mistaken there is an open plug for adding to the dask light circuit . You might try here and look at others beside the '69 chart it mught lead some where if I have a chance later i'll look.

The instrument panel light fuse is located after the adjuster/light switch. So all you have to do is tap into the system on the fused side. I pulled the fuse block and located the wire on the fused side and tapped into that.

Thanks guys,

I was getting tired of sticking that stinkin continuity tester into my finger and thought I'd get the pro's on the line.

Tip:get you a wooden clothes pin drill a hole in one side of it large enough to accept the end of your tester.

if your has a cigar lighter light in it you can tap into it and as said before it might be a plug there for that it might even be for a lighted cigar lighter. if your didnt have a lighted one from factory im sure the harness still has the provisions already in the harness assy.thoses were the little niche options for our trucks ive come to understand..
