Where do you get Window Channels?

Post by edselehr »

Hey, I finally found a Crew! ...but it's not a bump. Still, I hope you can help me with some questions.

I've been looking for a F-250 Crew Cab since December. Missed on a couple of good possiblities, but finally came across one here in Oregon from an original owner. It's a 1977 with the 300 six and four speed. Basic truck, but the owner kept it in good running mechanical condition. Recently put on new tires, alternator, steering box, brakes, clutch and pressure plate. Had carb rebuilt not too long ago (Carter 1bbl). Has a V8 radiator and electric fan for better cooling. I drove it and it runs out very well - it's a suprisingly comfortable truck to drive, and scoots down the road nicely with that six. He has been towing his sailboat (7000 lbs) with it since new, and must have been pretty satisfied with the performance to keep the truck for 30 years. The one big fubar he did with the truck is catch a gatepost with the passenger side. Caught a little bit of the rear door and most of the bed all the way back to the taillight. I'm going to take a puller, hammer, dolly and bondo to it and see how I can straighten it out (can't make it much worse.)

The truck has always worn a canopy, and spent the bulk of it's life in a garage. But for the ten years it sat outside, the window channels got rusty and corroded. And the crank handles are failing (two have the knobs busted off - this seems a common problem for dentside trucks).

Does anyone know of a good source for the felts and channels for the doors? Is there anyone making a kit for the rear crew doors, or does a front door kit have to be modified? I've checked out Steele Rubber and I *think* they have a front door kit. Anyway, any help on resurrecting the doors on this truck would be helpful.

Thanks! I'm new to Ford Trucks (though I drove my dad's '69 Ranger while in HS 30 years ago) so I need to get caught up on what's available.

I went to their website and they have lots of crew cab stuff - carpets, door rubber, etc. Sweet!

You have to buy 2 sets of the reg cab product. the window rubbers are the same and the rear doors will just be a trim to fit. The crews get a little pricey.

Your new purchase looks like mine. Congrats on the new ride. Image

Yes, same color and everything, but not trimmed out like yours (just a lowly Custom). Also mine's just a 2WD. But I'm going to get the dents fixed and take a shot at painting it myself. (I'll need to see if I can find some of that great looking stainless...)

Hope to get it home by the end of next week, then I'll try to put up some detailed pics.

Plus the online LMC catalog looks to have rear door specific window channel kits. Shouldn't have to cut them down from front door kits. Unless you were talking about door seals...
