emergency flasher on pass. side?

I went through the dash board on my '68 f100 and found the emergency flasher plug way over on the passenger side. It is right by the glove box.
I have manual choke, so that fills where the emergency flasher seems to go on other trucks.

So...Why did they move the flasher way over there?

Anybody moved it back to the drivers side?

Trucks that had a manual choke and the cargo light (not sure on specifics, but you might find something in the tutorials above) had the switch in the glovebox. No other place to mount it without more holes, and they didn't want to have to plug holes in the dash that weren't used, for trucks that had less "stuff", would be my guess.

I believe the stock location for emergency flasher on the '68 and '69 is in the glove box. All the other 6 positions on the dash are full. If I remember correctly emergency flashers were a new requirement for the pick up in '68. Until design caught up to new government reg's, there were a lot of funny add on looking things that occurred.

My '67 has the flasher switch in the glove box, but bluef250 is right, govt regulations made them move it.

Oddly, my '67 has an extra hole that was blanked out with a chrome plug. I'm not sure what it was for, originally, but I have the plug-blank. One of the PO's put a stinkin' horn button there because they were too lazy to fix the horn on the column.

Just how often do you plan on usin' yer e-flashers ???

I think they put the switch in g-box 'cause they figured with proper care you'd never need to use it...
In the nearly 20 years I've had my '68 CS, I've actually only used the e-flashers twice.
It don't hardly seem like it would be worth the hastle of movin' it.
Save the wiring for something really useful, like wirin' in an amp to thump yer subs...

Well, I've got a blanking plug where I think the cigar lighter would go, so I picked up an emergency flasher switch from a 71 or so thinking I could fill that space nicer than the reflector the PO stuck in it.

I think I'll use my emergency flasher more often than I'll use the cigar lighter.

Does anybody have a picture of the switch mounted in the glove box in their '68? That may be a better location, keep stock, and stuff the hole with thecigar lighter just to keep with factory.

My 69 350 my Dads 69 100 and my 68 SWB 100 were in the glove box my 71 with manual choke has it on the dash.

All the 67-69 trucks I've seen had them in the glove box. Sometimes they were on the right of the latch and sometimes on the left, didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for that...

my 68 ranger is under the dash on the drivers side just below the cargo light switch.

Here's what I believe:

All '67-'69 trucks had the switch mounted in the glovebox. It was usually mounted on the left side, though I've seen a few mounted along the right side...



...unless it came with factory air, since the factory A/C unit went up inside the glovebox, reducing it's size...in which case it was simply mounted under the dash in a convenient spot. (Since there was no factory A/C option for '67s, the switch was always in the glovebox.) The '67-'69 switch was never mounted in the dash, since the possible mounting spots were taken by the cargo lamp switch - manual choke cable - lighter...and it was a completely different style switch. If a manual choke or lighter wasn't installed, a chrome cover was snapped into place...but for trucks with no cargo light, there was no hole in the first position. The dash is solid, no hole.

Virtually all '70-'72 trucks had the in-dash-mounted switch. The three available positions for switches to the right of the column would be cargo light - flashers - lighter.



If no cargo light was installed, then the dash wouldn't have a hole for the first position...just the two for the flasher switch and lighter.



However, I have seen a few '70-'72 trucks that had the '67-'69 style mounted under the dash, and I have no explanation for that. It's possible they were something added by a previous owner...I have no idea. However, the couple I've seen this anomaly on were heavily-optioned trucks...and it's possible that even though a manual choke wasn't standard, it could've been special-ordered, and would've been mounted where the flasher switch would normally go...meaning they had to mount an under-dash flasher switch.

These are just my own observations, they're not gospel...but I believe them to be correct.

i never thought about it but i think your right about that. i have factory air so it makes since my switch is under the dash under the cargo light switch.

My '69 F250CS has it in the glove box, on the right hand side. Not real convenient for the driver. I don't have factory AC (or any AC for that matter. Yet.)
I do have the the lighted cargo light switch, and a manual choke.
BTW: It's a good idea to have your four ways on anytime you are backing a trailer.
